That's an AAV that's easy to fit under the cap.

Get ready for a full year of Gawdin in the NHL. This guy is gonna be good

The fact he has signed this contract, shows that the team intends to play him the NHL. He probably got a better AHL salary on the 2 way as well.

His qualifying offer was for 787,500, I believe (Referring to the 2020 UFA signing thread) , so he took less in NHL money, to get a better guaranteed amount probably.

I really don't share your enthusiasm. I think he is a long shot to be a fringe NHLer.

He seems like a perfect player to graduate to 4th line duties this coming season. And lord knows they want/need more RHS in the fw group

Long shot to be a fringe NHLer? He is basically a fringe NHLer already. He would have been in the bubble if not for getting injured during camp.

0.88 PPG in the AHL last year and plays a very responsible 200 foot game. He won't be a top 6 forward, but he will be an everyday player for sure.

Gawdin should have been in the NHL last year already.

I would love to be wrong, I just don't hold a lot of hope for 23 year olds who have yet to play an NHL game.

The biggest concern is his foot speed. Players who don't skate at an NHL level have a hard time cracking the lineup.

If he is an everyday player for the Flames, it will likely be a function of how bad their depth has become.

I'd love to see a Calgary kid line of,

Glenn Gawdin - Adam Ruzicka - Matthew Phillips

It's too bad we didn't get to see any of them during the playoffs, instead we saw 5 games from Mark Jankowski, 5 games of Zac Rinaldo, 3 games with Alan Quine and 1 game with Buddy Robinson.

Rieder played well but didn't belong on Backlund's wing, I was hoping for Phillips but he got injured, Ruzicka was the last cut and thought maybe Gawdin had a shot at the open spot but it was not to be.

Gawdin will still be an RFA after this season.

This is just fine. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't see much in Gawdin. At best he'll be a useful 4th liner IMO, which as I said is just fine. At worst he's a nice guy to have on the AHL squad helping future top 6 Flames forwards find their pro legs on the farm.

There's a ton of guys who make the NHL as a 4th liner after 23. Too many to list. Derek Ryan was 28.

I can see him being placed on the wing with Ryan on the 4th line. Not sure who I would put on the other wing though... Rieder and Quine are both gone, and Rinaldo is only effective in small doses.

Gawdin and Buddy are both RHS, so I imagine they will platoon.

I think Rinaldo might step it up. He had a career high PPG last season. He can skate well, so that works. You may end up with a 3 way platoon among Rinaldo, Gawdin and Robinson, with the latter two playing off wing sometimes.

I'm firmly in the "Gawdin is already an NHLer" camp.

I think his worst-case is "great teammate who eats up 4th line minutes nightly while rarely making mistakes and will even throw in a few fights along the way." His best-case is "solid, dependable 3rd-line NHL Center who either wears an A or a C at some point in his long career."

Priced accordingly, of course.
