No big deal. Just a 7th round pick because of his size. Wolf in training camp will be an interesting watch.

This is the third time in 5 years that a Silvertips' goalie has won the CHL Goalie of the Year.

Looks like it is going to be 4 in 6 next year also.

Congrats to him.

That will be a badass name to have stitched on your jersey in 2025.

THN ranked him ranked in the third round in their draft preview. So I was surprised he didn’t go until the seventh round

Pretty cool, though goalies are a different beast.

I don’t want to get too excited after our history of top goalie prospects recently.

But awesome news nonetheless. Here’s hoping he keeps on improving.

I don't even care if his stats regress.

As long as he doesn't suffer any major injuries like Parsons, Gillies, etc.

Looking back at previous winners, looks like he might be the youngest winner in quite some time?

Please o please be the next Brodeur or Roy in Superstars playing early in the NHL and Kipper 2.0 for the Flames solidifying the pipes.

I want to see something like this on a Flames Goalie Helmet for many years and we will see it lift the cup....

Call him up for the playoffs, we know it can't hurt him by throwing him to the wolfs

Just listed as #4 of drafted goalie prospects on the Athletic.

1. Sorokin 2014 draft Islanders
2. Knight 2019 draft Panthers (1st round)
3. Ingram 2016 draft Preds
4. Wolf 2019 draft Flames
5. Priemau 2017 draft Habs

I was just coming to post this. Here is what Wheeler has to say about Wolf in that article:
Quote:
4. Dustin Wolf, G, 19 (Calgary Flames — 214th overall, 2019)
He’s going to keep proving everyone wrong and become an NHL goalie. I really did believe that last year before he fell to the bottom of the draft, and his stellar play in 2019-2020 only helped his case. Wolf is small. He’s listed at 6-feet and even that feels generous. But he never looks small. He’s almost always in position. When he gets off of his line he has a great glove hand. He’s got quick feet but he doesn’t swim. And the numbers speak for themselves. We know that hockey players are unique from one another in more ways than professional athletes in many other sports are but we still tend to box them in as “you can’t be a 6-foot starting goalie in today’s NHL” and so on. That isn’t always the case, though, and while they may inform the likelihood we place on an outcome, there are always exceptions. I think Wolf has what it takes in skillset and mindset to be one of those exceptions.

Wheeler still loves Dustin Wolf. He actually dropped a spot to #5 in his rankings due to Askarov coming on the scene.
Quote:

Previous ranking: No. 4

The little goalie that could, I’m confident Wolf will someday be saying he “did.” Maybe the goalie prospect I most enjoy watching, Wolf has fascinated me for his ability to look big despite so obviously being small. When you notice how tiny a goalie is in the net, it’s normally not a good sign. There just aren’t many goalies who make a career out of it at 5-foot-11 or 6-foot. But Wolf is an ultra-talented, positional goalie who stays within himself through tight, controlled movement that rarely stray. If the success of Anton Khudobin in the Stanley Cup playoffs taught us anything, it’s that there are always exceptions to the rule. Wolf’s got the numbers and the skill set to support his case. He’s quick, he’s got a stellar glove hand to compensate for his lack of size up top, and though he’s rarely swimming in the net, whenever he has to he does an exceptional job recentreing to track the puck.

Pretty wild that the Predators have the #1 and #3 prospects on Wheeler's list.

For his top 50 skater rankings the Flames only had one guy on the list. Connor Zary at #44.

Yes, many guys were pushed off that list after Wheeler plugged in many of the 2020 drafted players. I'd also say that Zary being ranked at #44 is something to crow about. He's surrounded by a lot of exciting players on that list and is ahead of some potentially great players.

Unless I’m mistaken, Holloway didn’t make the list.

Nope, no Holloway. Oilers fans not pleased that Holloway and Broberg are nowhere to be found. Gotta love it.

With the Markstrom signing and a top 5 goalie prospect the Flames have definitely turned goaltending into a strength in the organization. Not overly deep but they have a top 5 tandem in the league and the reigning CHL goaltender of the year. Pretty good spot to be in.
