I tried the "Fresca" flavoured sparkling soda the other day. I put Fresca in quotations because I'm not sure if this is the same brand umbrella as the real Fresca? I'm not sure why they're adding confusion to the Fresca market. Fresca is a drink, not a brand of drinks dammit.

Anyway, I tried the grapefruit version of this new, imposter Fresca and it made me yearn for the chemical burn of original Fresca's highly artificial flavour. It was very mild. Maybe another flavour would have been better.

This flavoured soda water trend seems to be growing, which I'm ok with, just don't besmirch the name of a treasured brand like Fresca.

Fresca got me through high school, it can't be replaced.

Coke beats Pepsi hands down. Dr Pepper is fantastic, and I'll enjoy root beer form Barq's or A&W. Ginger Ale is delicious, and a Sprite when it's hotter than Hades is also great.

What I cannot abide is any soda with artificial sweeteners. They are all awful. Now, if you need a sweet drink every day, I get it. Can't be taking in all that sugar. But I have a pop a couple times a month, and I want real sweeteners. Basic sugar being the best, of course.

I've seen a friend go through an aspartame addiction, and it was amazing how much trouble he had quitting that stuff, after insisting it was not addictive. It was kinda eye opening. Won $100 on that bet, too. He thought after a month he'd be "clean" of diet coke, and he just couldn't. He finally broke the habit after 3 months and swore never to go back.

I presume that is the traditional "hooping it" method?

I didn’t say I drink tonnes of it.

Besides, in normal amounts it’s safe.

You sound defensive. First sign of aspartame addiction.

One of our big parenting wins is that our kids LOVE water and hate pop and juice.

Both love chocolate milk but we save it to be a treat.

And my oldest will drink Yops.

That's it. Their liquid consumption is probably 95%+ water.

Careful with that or soon they'll be complaining about bike lanes and pedestrian bridges.

I’m amazed that after 8 pages, nobody has been that hipster “Coke and Pepsi is so mainstream” guy

So I’ll be that guy

Any root beer fans out there have to try Annex Root Beer. Its bold, strong and flavourful Root Beer. I used to love my A&W and Barq’s but since trying Annex’s version, the rest tastes like swill. Produced here in Calgary too. The only problem is, it’s nearly $3 a can

A&W is no longer the awesome root beer it used to be.

Rum & coke was always my preference but I learned to drink rum&water recently and like it. I bet with more practice I will be able to cut out the water as well.
