Really people can't even make predictions without being shi*ted on by the same posters. Who cares what people predict!

I'll play as there's a big mac on and fries on the line.
Edmonton vs Chicago
Chicago in 5, I just think they are deeper than the No goods
Vancouver vs Minnesota
Vancouver in 4, Markstrom V Dubynk, I know which way i'm leaning.
Nashville vs Arizona
Nashville in 5, experience of play offs wins out but it's close
Calgary vs Winnipeg
Calgary in 5, close series but flames prevail
Pittsburgh vs Montreal
Pittsburgh in 4, I don't see Price overcoming all of the other Habs problems
Carolina vs NY Rangers
Rangers in 4, just because it would pi$$ off the carolina fans even more
NY Islanders vs Florida
Islanders in 5, Another close one from two middling clubs
Toronto vs Columbus
Columbus in 5, the pressure of getting in proves too much for the leafs and the choke.

This is a prediction thread not a hope/optimism thread. Why do so many people struggle accepting that some people's predictions may not coincide with the team they hope wins?
Well the Flames rivals happen to be the favorites in their series. Heaven forbid someone pick the teams that are the favorites.
|
Because there are a handful of posters (yourself included) who never have anything positive to say about the team and feed off the team not winning and it is bizarre. Perhaps you can enlighten me as to why you cheer for a team you have a constant negative outlook about? What pleasure do you get from it? If I felt the same way some of you do about this hockey team I would either cheer for a different team or not bother watching. It is just a constant pessimistic outlook, what do you get out of it?

Again it's a prediction thread. Your comments have nothing to do with the topic.

Well that didn't answer my question but fair enough. In such a tight series I don't understand why a fan would predict against their own team but you are right, it is a prediction thread.

All of these series are a crapshoot. With so much time off and so much parody in the league I fully expect a 17-24 seed to hoist the cup in october lol. Try not putting an asterisk on it at that point

I think every series will be a coin flip. Look at the first 5 or 10 games of the regular season for the top teams.
Bos: 4-1, 7-3
TB: 2-3, 5-5
Was: 2-3, 6-4
PHI: 2-3, 5-5
STL: 2-3, 5-5
COL: 5-0, 8-2
VGK: 3-2, 6-4
DAL: 1-4, 2-8
Hardly dominating. Even if a team is good or elite, rust is a great equalizer, and shorter series leads to more chance. Good opportunity to bet on the underdog for plus money each series.

Edmonton vs Chicago: Edmonton in 5 - Chicago doesn't have the defense to stop the Oilers top line.
Vancouver vs Minnesota: Minnesota in 5 - Vancouver's youth has some growing pains in the first round. Minnesota's veterans benefit from rest and a second chance.
Nashville vs Arizona: Nashville in 4 - Nashville is the deeper team top to bottom IMO
Calgary vs Winnipeg: Winnipeg in 5 - in the end Winnipeg's goaltending is the difference.
Pittsburgh vs Montreal: Pittsburgh in 4 - Montreal just isn't very good.
Carolina vs NY Rangers: Rangers in 4 - Rangers goaltending and Panarin end up leading the way.
NY Islanders vs Florida: Florida in 5 - Panthers end up surprising the Islanders
Toronto vs Columbus: Toronto in 4 - Leafs offense is too much for the Blue Jackets who are thin up front.

How dare I predict that our team may not make it past the first round? Every time the odds are in our favor, we tend to be the ones that mess it up. When they aren't in our favor, we actually play better. I even said in my description, "please let me be wrong."
See the 2015 series against the Canucks, we weren't supposed to win.
See the 2019 series against the Avs, we were supposed to win.
How dare I.

Playing in front of empty buildings could make a big difference for this group of players this time around. One of the things that has me fairly bullish about the Flames's prospects this year is how much better they seem to perform on the road, and in situations where the arena crowd is not a factor. The Avalanche seemed to feed on the building energy in the playoffs last year, in both the Saddledome and the Pepsi Center, and the Flames wilted under the other end of that same pressure. It's something they don't need to contend with this year.

Pittsburgh vs Montreal - Carey Price puts on a stellar performance, stealing two games and making the other three competitive, but the Penguins persevere and win game five in triple overtime
Carolina vs NY Rangers - A high scoring affair, with Adam Fox potting ten points in four games, bringing much angst to Calgary Puck. The Hurricanes ultimately prevail.
NY Islanders vs Florida - Florida has home ice advantage playing in an empty arena, which ends up being the difference maker in a 3-1 series.
Toronto vs Columbus - Toronto plays its best hockey of the year against a healthy Columbus, only to get matched up against Boston in the first round.
Nashville vs Arizona - Like Florida, Arizona has home ice advantage, unlike Florida it's not enough. Nashville in 5.
Calgary vs Winnipeg - Calgary actually shows up and takes the first game of the series. Fans are ecstatic. Hellebuyck proceeded to stand on his head for the rest of the series, including a 60 save shutout, and the Jets take it in five. The hockey gods reward the Flames with the first overall pick. Taylor Hall signs in the summer taking a steep home town discount. He is quoted as stating "You can't fight fate."
Edmonton vs Chicago - The preseasons kings get off to a quick start, going 2-0 including two hatricks by James Neal. This is the final straw that convinces the league to grant the conditional pick to the flames. In the mean time Edmonton has already planned the parade as they forget that a third game needs to be won. In what turns out to be one of the most entertaining series of all time, the Hawks come back to reverse sweep the Oilers 3-2. Chelsea Dagger is played 69 times before the curtain closes.
Vancouver vs Minnesota - The DJ has gotten so used to playing Chelsea Dagger that it's played by accident when Minnesota scores. Vancouver proceeds to riot and the fate of the series is lost in the mists of time.

Flames are favourites
Where is the poster that said he would be mad if the Flames made the conference finals? Am I allowed to mock his posts still?

I factored in an empty building with other series, but honestly forgot about it when thinking about my favorite team and their matchup. I think we have a solid chance at competing, just hoping Hellebuyck doesn’t stand on his head.
