Prices have gone up a lot in the last couple of years. New environmental and efficiency requirements plus inflation.

Recently replaced a 2000 model Bradford White Natural Gas replaced for approx $1700.

I like Bradford White as I have them in other properties. They are made in America, they are considered professional grade and are usually only installed by professional plumbers. They are not the big box retailer branded tanks that Joe Blow can try and install by themselves.

It appears that the 2023 model that I installed doesn't have the same level of components from the outside compared to my 2000 model but such is life. Plastic parts where brass used to be, an electronic thermocouple as opposed to a manual one (old) which will probably be a point of failure before the tank etc.

Good luck but definitely shop around

Did one a year ago for $2,755 + GST final bill. The supply & install of the 50 gallon heater itself was $2,400. The rest was for disposal and conversion of the previous two 40 gallon tank system.

The quote I got from the original company I called was for $2,995 + GST.

edit: oh, and the quote from the guy who ended up doing the install was initially lower on the supply and install of the heater, at $2,164. I don't recall exactly why that particular item went up, but the overall bill came in quite a bit lower than the total quote because they didn't end up having to install a chimney liner like they thought they would.

Are you replacing a 40 MBH natural draft water heater with a 40 MBH natural draft water heater? That would be significantly cheaper. $1,000 - $1,400 for the tank plus parts and labour, which on those tanks which isn't much.

If you have something higher efficiency it starts getting more expensive. Especially if you need to revise the venting to suit.
