Another fun Beto O'Rourke fact:

While touring with his band in the early 90s, he befriended a young Leslie Feist at a tour stop in Calgary, and later played a show with her first band, Placebo.

I'm guessing this was likely at the Republik or maybe the Night Gallery? If so, there's a good chance I was there that night. I remember seeing Placebo several times in those days.

On his summer break, the band toured the U.S. and Canada, where, O’Rourke remembers, they met and befriended a young Leslie Feist (of future “1,2,3,4” fame) one night in Calgary as she was waiting in line outside the band’s gig.

“My memory is [she] didn’t have any money to get in and so she traded, I believe, her brother’s lock-picking set and a T-shirt or a tape and then we traded her a ticket to get in,” O’Rourke says. “And then when we came through next year, she had a band called Placebo that we played with.”

It's really annoying how this is what Feist is known for. She gets treated like a one-hit wonder when this is frankly among her worst tracks off an album that isn't even in her top 3.

I know this guy actually called in to the Boston Globe, but does a threat made on Twitter have the same consequences as a phoned in threat? I get the impression, reading Twitter occasionally, that it's ignored. Would it be just that's its difficult to prove?

It doesn't matter who the president threatens on Twitter.

Yes, threats online can be reported and that person charged if you can find their identity.

Pretty classy eulogy by Diamond Joe at McCain's funeral. I still think he's probably too old to run in 2020 and that the Dems need some new blood. But Biden is a true statesman, and he's the kind of person the U.S. needs in order to right the ship and repair the damage caused by Trump.

I love Feist but Placebo was so very horrible. I remember them getting booed out of a gig at The Republik (I think, if I remember correctly, they ((for some ridiculous reason)) were opening for 'The Smalls').

Feist may have turned things around and done very well for herself but let's not kid ourselves by trying to glorify ####ing Placebo.

Any time I saw Placebo, especially at Republik, they got a great reception. Maybe you saw them when they were starting out.

Of course her solo stuff is way better, but they were a one of the better bands in that scene.

Lol, wow. You ok? Did one of their band members steal your girlfriend back in 1994?

I never said they were a great band. I just remember attending several shows where they were on the bill. I think I saw them headline once (at the Republik I think?) I didn't think they were terrible by any means...I'd say average at best. But Feist was a damn good singer though, even back then.

This isn't true at all. They opened for the Smalls at Mac Hall in 93 and were great. The opened for All Rights Reserved in The Black Lung and were great, too. I loved seeing them and still have my Don't Drink the Bathwater CD. They were a good Calgary band and she was an entertaining lead singer.

Wasn't Placebo a band from the UK? Every You Every Me song. What am I missing here? Or two different bands with the same name?

Damn, I remember them now, local punk band. There were a few back in the early 90's I followed along with Huevos Rancheros

Two different bands. The one from Calgary had to change their name to Placebo Four.

Wow... I didn't mean to cause any trouble. Feist was always good but 'Placebo' was... not. Anyway... Sorry to de-rail the 'emperor Cheeto' thread. Trump is an idiot.

Also... as I said... I love Feist. I have everything she has ever done and I love her musicianship. So please... I'm not in the mood to fight. She was great... I just said that her band 'Placebo" back in the day, was horrible and I won't back down from that.
