Last week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported a small surge in cases of a mysterious disease in children. More than 60 cases of the polio-like illness have been confirmed in 22 U.S. states in recent weeks. Now, doctors in Toronto say they're seeing cases appear in Canada.
"I can confirm that since September, we have certainly seen an increase of patients with muscle weakness who also had a preceding viral illness," said Dr. Jeremy Friedman, associate pediatrician-in-chief at the Hospital for Sick Children. "These symptoms are typical of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) and increases of similar cases have been reported by many other North American pediatric centres."
Doctors do not know what causes the ailment, nor are they sure why more cases have been reported recently. Children are the victims in the vast majority of cases and doctors are not exactly sure why.

I'm not a scientist or doctor, and obviously there's no link to the anti-vaxx movement, but one would think it makes sense to have your immune system as strong as possible.

Schools really need to make vaccinations mandatory for kids to attend.
Don't like that? move to Fort Macleod or SoCal.

Those two places are hilarious together. That's like saying... "Would you rather chop your arm off or clip your fingernails."

Most schools here have that policy. The Orange County outbreak was a real wake up call.

Just a friendly reminder to those getting the flu shot: be sure to get it in your non-dominant arm.
Ugh, I wasn't thinking. My son got his shot in his left arm, then my wife got her shot in her left arm, then me being an idiotic southpaw got the shot in my left arm.
Now my dominant arm feels like it's been shot and I want to cut it off.
Get your flu shots, but in your non-dominant arm!

I followed your advise. Bad idea. I am right handed so got my shot in my left arm. However, I sleep on my left side...with every shift, it felt like a tiny person punching me.
Still better than getting the flu.

Just wondering, but why do we get them in the arm anyway? It's not like they are going directly into a vein. Couldn't an intramuscular injection go into any fleshy area like the leg? Obviously there must be a reason, but I am curious. A quick Google search didn't reveal the reason, although I didn't dig past the first page (lazy I guess). I figured someone around here is smart enough to spoon feed me.

https://www.popsci.com/why-does-my-a...et-my-flu-shot
Main reasons seem to be the deltoid is more convenient, there is less fat to poke through and less nerve endings in the area (this article specifically is about the butt, but I assume leg can be similar). For me, a sore arm would be better than a sore leg too.
Other sites say the shoulder is closer to lymph nodes which could make the shot more effective.

It just needs to be intramuscular and the arm beats everyone pulling their pants down at the pharmacy or clinic. That's my guess.

Oh come on. It's not worth a trip to the pharmacy unless it gets weird.

Aren't autists really good at math? Did you learn nothing from Rain Man?

Are “root canals cause all health problems” the new “vaccines cause autism”?
I just caught that “root cause” doc on Netflix and it started out okay, but then it just started getting into all sorts of weirdness.
