Well it's electronic. Which isn't in my daily rotation but it's a great album.

The Jack White, Grimes, Sleigh Bells, Santigold and Joel Plaskett Emergency albums are all pretty great.

Sigur Ros, Gaslight Anthem, Twin Shadow, Metric and Phoenix are all releasing albums this year. Plus the rumored Daft Punk and Yeah Yeah Yeah's albums could make this year pretty damn awesome.

I think more music gets released from the Spring into the Fall (to coincide with the summer tour schedules). I have always bought more music in the second half of the year.

It could be too that bands are releasing eps and singles, more often than albums now.

My faves so far (Canadian):

Bahamas - Barchords
Bidiniband - In The Rock Hall
Lee Ranaldo - Between The Times And Tides
Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball
Plants And Animals - The End Of That
Aaron Freeman - Marvelous Clouds
Yukon Blonde - Tiger Talk

Best reviewed albums of 2012 so far:

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/alb...view=condensed

I think there has never been a more exciting time in music. The major record companies may be dying, but independent music is more available than ever before.

For those interested, when you spend $15+ at HMV you get Jack White's album for $7. This was at The Core mall. I have no idea I it's the same elsewhere.

Emily Haines on the new album Synthetica:

Synthetica is "about forcing yourself to confront what you see in the mirror when you finally stand still long enough to catch a reflection. Synthetica is about being able to identify the original in a long line of reproductions. It's about what is real vs what is artificial".

Why do artists always talk in philosophical riddles and metaphors when describing their own work? Seems pretentious. Never understood that. Either way, great album.

Lots of good songs around but nobody is stringing together anything significant.
You are looking in the wrong places for music. Check out independent artists on youtube, soundcloud, etc. Listen to internet radio stations that fit genres you like, etc. I'm pretty big on Digitally Imported and Soma.fm and stereomood right now.

Simian Mobile Disco - Unpatterns
The Hives - Lex Hives

Feistadon: Mastodon and Feist covering each others music. It's not a full album though...just a 7"

I also want to mention that this is obviously a good thing.

I mean what's the use of getting hints you already knew?
