It is funny how fondly I look back at all the horrible times I had on one of those buses.

Yeah...not nearly as glamorous as on a plane. The bathroom in one of those things was closer to a porta-potty and you could hear the sloshing over every bump.
The kind of classy lady that would agree to that tryst makes me shudder.

Also, fun fact!
At the time of 'The Incident' Greyhound's Official Slogan was:
"Where are you Headed?"
Great phrasing. Bad timing.

Yeah, I was 11 on it by myself heading to Red Deer. I mean, not that far, but still weird. Like, if my kids had to go to Red Deer to see a friend for the weekend I'd think nothing of driving them there. What were my parents doing that was so important I was fricken Greyhounding around lol?

As a youngster in a split family I must have averaged about four Greyhound trips annually as my mother hated long distance driving. Typically uneventful but the odd trip would be spiced up by drunks and/or misfits.

Same, used to go to BC and back every year or two. Get dropped off at the station with a magazine and a couple bucks for food. Bus made lots of stops along the way, I wonder if the driver ever actually counted that the unattended kids got back on?

Also, on a trip from Calgary to Vancouver my friend and I attempted to discern the single most obnoxious food that one could bring on to a Bus at a stop.
Its a bucket of KFC.
And it wasnt even close.

End of an era, for sure. I spent many an hour on a bus with my brother after my parents split going between Claresholm and Edmonton. We started doing it at 10 and 8yo. I think the last time was at 16 and 14.

My favourite greyhound memory was watching a guy brush his teeth on the bus. As he gets going, I’m wondering if he has an endgame because he’s window seat, mid bus and he’s full on brushing away like it’s no big deal. Probably spent a solid 2 minutes brushing before he simply swallowed it all, not even a sip of water to wash it all down.

I hope somebody steps in and fills the gap. Greyhound was losing money, but most of that was on the rural routes. They were running Ottawa to Montreal every hour or so. And they were usually full or near full.
Ottawa to Toronto was also usually packed.

My dad drove the Calgary to Edmonton route for years, and I remember having to load that bus and it constantly needed overload busses.
Red Arrow is more than likely to swallow that Passenger niche because its lucrative, but they dont deliver freight and they dont stop at every little town along the way.
The thing is, Greyhound was relied upon heavily for those Rural Routes, but they werent making money at it. It was my understanding that for years they were receiving Government Subsidies to run those routes because they were performing a valuable service, but when those subsidies dried up it just wasnt viable anymore.
