Greyhound shutting down in all of Canada permanently
I used to ride Greyhound a fair bit as a kid, completely gone from Canada now.

Quote:
Greyhound Canada is shutting down all of its remaining bus routes in Canada, permanently.
The bus company says all of its remaining routes will cease operations as of midnight Thursday.
The iconic bus carrier pulled out of Western Canada in 2018.
It then put its remaining routes in Ontario and Quebec on pause when COVID-19 hit in 2020, but now it is pulling out of domestic Canadian service permanently.
"A full year without revenue has unfortunately made it impossible to continue operations," spokesperson Stuart Kendrick said. "We deeply regret the impact this has on our staff and our customers, as well as the communities we have had the privilege of serving for many years."
Greyhound Canada has been in operation in one form or another for more than a century.

Yeah I used them for trips to Edmonton and around BC for various works. Fortunately I didn't have any sketchy moments... which makes me wonder if everyone else thought I was the sketchy one in my smelly dirty work clothing, unshaven, scraggly hair, etc...
Of course they'll live in infamy for the beheading dude and luggage shenanigans.

Good. Riddance.
They were a great service for a great many people and a lot of Freight.
But I'll never forgive them.
Arguably the worst job I ever had.

I once took a greyhound from Nanaimo to Calgary.
I was poor, young and dumb.
That's all I got to add.

Not sure how prisoners will get home now, I must have put hundreds of kids on Greyhounds to get back east, I remember one kid got snowed in at Broadview or some other Prairie town, had to live on the bag of doritos I sent him off with for three days

I still remember when I visited my girlfriend in BC and had to take a 14 hour greyhound ride back. Sat next to a very sweet old lady and struggled to eloquently explain my long weekend booty call.
And no, I did not shack up with the old lady

Didn't want to join the 7 foot high club in the back of the bus?

Oh the memories. I got shipped all over Western Canada on Grey hound as a kid over 40 years ago.
Still hard to believe someone was beheaded on one.

One of my favourite Greyhound memories is when I was sitting next to the bathroom at the back of the bus and an old lady got stuck inside. She started yelling at me to let go of the handle and let her out (no one was holding the handle). I think because I was sitting next to the bathroom, she was implying it was me.
I tried to help her get out but she had it locked from the inside, all the time I was trying to calm her down and she kept blaming other people for locking her in. The bus driver had to stop and use a key to let her out and then she gave me the meanest, dirtiest look when she got out.

I had to use Greyhound quite often in the '90s. I even took a Greyhound flight when that briefly existed. It was weird being in the old depot when I got a Covid test last week, all the gate signs are still up.

Greyhound stations were the best places for people watching back then. They were like a gigantic laundry basket full of hand puppets.

Took the Greyhound once, and once was enough.
I like to think I got the "full" Greyhound experience, including having to switch busses at two in the morning in some random BC town. No 7 foot club though.

I just assumed, because no one can say no to Pizza on a bus.

Same. Every summer, Greyhound out to the grandparents for a few weeks. Was ok when we lived in Calgary, there was only one stop Calgary-Medicine Hat-Swift Current. When we moved out of town, we got put on the milk run bus in Strathmore. Stopped at every wide spot in the road, took forever.
I look back at an unaccompanied 12 & 10 year old jumping off the bus at the long stop in the Hat for a shared plate of fries and gravy with the $10 we were given, and wonder what on earth my folks were thinking. Different times I guess.

I used to use them quite a bit to visit an old girlfriend in Edmonton about 15 years ago. I didn't think their services were that bad, but the station in Edmonton back then was definitely a little sketchy.
