I can’t remember if I mentioned it in here before, but there’s a book called “The Invisible Leash” that we found really helped when our dog passed away. Our daughter was 3 at the time and 2 years later she still talks about the invisible leash to our dog Ringo.

Fair warning, reading this book may cause a lot of tears for the adults…haha.

I was curious about this, as helping a child through the loss of a pet, especially one that they've known their entire life, isn't something I'll ever have to do...but my sister in law recently had a family pet pass, and her 3 boys were devastated.

She mentioned the books "Saying Goodbye to Barkley" (https://www.amazon.ca/Saying-Goodbye.../dp/1925335968) and "All The Dear Little Animals" (https://www.amazon.ca/All-Dear-Littl.../dp/1776572890) helped her trio (7yo, 5yo, 2yo) a lot.

Good gawd.. I don't know if it's the fact that one day I'll be in this situation with my little guy and our older dog, but I'm getting all emotional just clicking on the bloody amazon links.

puckhog, really sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the thoughts and book recommendations, everyone. Our daughter was at preschool for the morning, so we’re going to talk to her this afternoon. She spends a fair amount of time at her grandparents, so she needs to be aware that Rosie won’t be there next time. Wish us luck!
