Best Pub in Downtown/Beltine
Hey CP, what would you consider to be the best pub in the Downtown/Beltline area? By "the best", I mean great atmosphere, service, comfort & beer/food combination. In other words, if you had your classmate visiting from out-of-town for one evening, where would you take him?
Admins, please don't move this thread to the Food & Entertainment section for a couple of hours. Thank you.

Brigg's on 10th Ave is quite good.
If you're willing to venture north of the River - Hayden Block has an amazing vibe, great food and good drink.
If you're willing to venture east - Cold Garden, although it doesn't have food is amazing. It's very hipstery, but amazing beer and atmosphere.

Totally depends on your tastes.
For example, I think the Ship is totally over rated and terrible.

So, just pubs, right? Not any other type of establishment where one might drink beer?
In that case, for downtown, Unicorn Celtic Cellar. It's the closest thing to the original Unicorn, as the upstairs version is... bleh. It's actually an authentic, unpretentious pub, rather than a pretender to that concept. They also have likely the best wings in the city. If only the old Unicorn on 2nd street and 8th ave still existed, that would be the obvious choice. Alternatively, if you could convince yourself that the Palomino is close enough to a pub (even though in my view it clearly isn't), there's a good case to be made there.
Beltline is much more difficult, as there are many more options. I'm partial to the Pig & Duke on 12th and 12th, so I'd probably go with that. Reasonable people may differ. I don't like the beer or food offerings at the Ship, for instance, even though a lot of people would lean that way.
Again, this is for a pub. Not a restaurant, bar, lounge, or otherwise. Frankly, as far as I'm concerned the best place to go have a drink and chill for a couple of hours is Proof, but that is obviously the polar opposite of a pub. Similarly, Last Best on 11th ave is great, but is a microbrew restaurant, not a pub.

A typical week for me involves Bear & Kilt, Below the Deck (aka new Unicorn basement), and Palomino. So definitely avoid those places. Dives need to stay dives.

Still there. Food is still amazing too.
Oak Tree is one of my favorites in Kensington, they just expanded to two floors.
I don't really like the new unicorn, its just not the same.

My pick would be the Pig & Duke on 12th. I live down the street so it's my local spot.

I'm a fan of Beer Revolution. Good food and a very nice beer selection. Although, to be fair, it's probably been 2 years since I've been there because I sadly gave up drinking beer. But last time I went, I thought it was great!
