The players might be the ones asking for a salary cap (and floor) at this rate.

Phillips sign Arrieta to what could be a 2 to 5 year contact. Essentially a 3 year 75 million dollar deal. I think the Phillies will have some big time buyers remorse here.

So what would the owners want in exchange for giving up control? A franchise tag? Non guaranteed contracts? Should be interesting.

The baseball market has always been careful with FA signings.
Unlike in the NHL when on July 1 GMs spend money like drunken sailors. So much so that there is a free agency tv show.

Bumgarner sustained a displaced fracture on the pinkie knuckle of his pitching hand when he was hit by a Whit Merrifield line drive in the third inning of the Giants’ 9-6 loss to the Royals.
Bumgarner will have pins inserted into his hand to stabilize the fracture in the fifth metacarpal. Though the club provided no official prognosis, Bumgarner said he was told the pins would remain in his hand for at least four weeks, which means his recovery could be measured in months, not weeks.

I'm not sure if Urena will get out of this inning.

Trea Turner is batting sixth. The rationale beyond it is even stupider. The Nationals are never going to win a playoff series.

Hector Neris and Carlos Martinez are 1-2 on my fantasy hate list. I'm also hating Cody Bellinger too. Thanks to stupid yahoo auto draft I picked him instead of another position I could have used. I started his 0-4 sorry ass over Rhys Hoskins. Thankfully I didn't screw that up today.

Pitcher's duel in LA.
Cueto perfect through 6 innings. Only one infield hit off Wood.
