I think if he could have stayed healthy he would have been given a longer leash to work it out on the ice. You miss games and guys come in and take your place.

I think Jagr just doesn't want to admit he's done, and I think he also might want that all time games played record.
Seems different than the Smid situation who stayed through his contract. Obviously one or both parties doesn’t want that here.

A shame it didn’t work out. Silver lining is that Flames get an opportunity to play a younger guy. If some of them had shown more in camp Jagr would not have been signed.

No I meant recently... they promoted guys like Guentzel, Sheath, Murray etc into bigger roles instead of vets and it worked

Yes the situation is different. Bob McKenzie reported yesterday that both Jagr's camp and the Flames entered into this with the understanding that if either side did not fell it was working, they would mutually terminate the contract.

If Smid wanted to give up $4 million still owed on his contract he could have terminated his contract as well.

Forever A Flame thing is an insult.

As for Jagr
22 games 7 points +6

Brouwer
40 games 10 points -7

Will he even be at super-skills tomorrow? Would be nice for fans to have a chance to say goodbye...

I thought he was mostly effective in his time, and was surprised to see him actually use some speed on the forecheck. Yeah, I remember he took a really bad hooking penalty, and his hands didn't seem quite as fast in raising the puck, but I thought he was mostly good. I thought him on the Jankowski line made that line incredibly difficult to play against along the boards.

I just think he injured his groin and it just hasn't healed up, and it impacts him. Wish he signed sooner and then it may well have been avoided. I don't think the wheels suddenly fell of a cliff (though of course he is obviously regressing). I just think that not having a training camp and not getting into full game shape probably messed him up this year, and it seems it is likely to put an end to his career.

Glad he signed with the Flames, and I couldn't be happier as a long-time fan of his in getting to watch him in my favorite jersey. I think there was some nights he out-played more than half the roster. I also don't care what people say and what they have as a definition - I think Jagr is a generational talent and the best European player ever in the history of the game.
