How good/bad is your short term memory?
Mine seems to keep getting worse. I'm 32 but feels like I'm much older because I can't seem to remember things. My long term memory is great or if I have to remember something important but the little things I tend to forget easily.
Don't even know how many times I've bought a tea from timmies and forget to drink it and don't realize until the next time I get in my car.
Just me?

Wait until you hit your mid 40s. I dream of having the recall of facts I had in my 30s. I have a passcode to access my iPad, something I use several times a day, and yesterday I completely blanked on it. Had to ask my son. I routinely forget the names of people I work with. It sucks.

Are you forgetting to drink it because you are busy with other stuff? It could simply be a matter of you getting distracted easily rather than outright forgetting. I'm mid-40's and my memory isn't as good as it used to be but I find my issues are more centered around remembering names and not necessarily events or tasks I am to perform as I rarely ever forget anything I have to do. My wife on the other hand always remembers names but is terrible at remembering events. I think it's pretty normal over time that your memory may not be as sharp as it used to be.

I'm 36 and having similar issues. I'll go to the kitchen (which is steps away) and forget why I went in there, but my long term memory is excellent.

As far as I can recall, I've always had a bad memory.

I find that I can only access it once per day but years ago I used to be able to access it 4 or 5 times per day - wait a minute, what is the topic of this thread

I'm 32 as well, and I've found in the past 5 years as my life has become increasingly more busy with work/career stresses, having a family, and actually being an "adult", that my memory is fading.
I think it's because I don't have time for trivial things anymore, or that my brain is full of important thoughts, so the non-important stuff is forgotten or ignored.
I remember the days of having perfect recall.

Are there exercises that we can do to improve/maintain short-term or long-term memory?

It definitely gets worse as you get older, I need lists for everything. If I go to the grocery store without one, I will forget at least two things, that I really need, even if I walk up and down every aisle.
Also, just having a conversation, something I was about to say will just be gone from my head, it takes minutes sometimes to remember what it was.

I wonder how my memory would be if I didn't smoke so much weed from 18-30.
Like Troutman, Jeopardy is my litmus test. I find I'm definitely slower than I used to be.

Yes. There are apps and programs for this. My wife's step father is from a family where Dementia is hereditary (his younger sister got it) and he's always on his iPad playing these games and despite being older than his sister by 7 years he's for the most part remained sharp although recently there are signs things are getting worse but he's 73. If you are really worried about it and it's affecting your life (or you have history in your family) you should probably consult your physician.

Interesting thread. I think my short-term memory is pretty good but it really depends on the subject matter.

Yes. I think. I can't remember. Never mind. What was your question again?

Short term used to be very good but seems to be slipping a little as the years go by. Long term still seems pretty solid and for whatever reason I can remember our phone number we had growing up and we moved from that house when I was 11.
