I know it sounds crazy but any chance Jagr signs to a PTO? At first I thought because he's a legend and hall of famer that he wouldn't need a PTO but maybe the team wants to see how he meshes with some of the young guys or to have a direct competition between Jagr and the young guys like Foo. There's at least been interest in Jagr, maybe this is just the next step to signing him.

Backlund is one of the best defensive centres in the NHL. Why in the hell would you move him to wing after spending so many years developing him?

If Jankowski earns a spot, it will either be on the wing, or as the 4th line C with Stajan on his wing to support him.

Nothing wrong with a player starting on the 4th line and getting 10-12 minutes a night until he shows he can handle more. If he outplays Bennett for 20 games (which I highly doubt) then you move him up and move Bennett to the wing.

When should we expect the first round of cuts?

What does the short term Flames calendar look like? Rookie camp - main camp - split squad - pre-season I'm guessing. When? Did I hear that there are games in a week already?

Hoping Tkachuk and Bennett get paired together.

Backlund and Frolik's mission this year is to rebuild the confidence of either Brouwer or Lazar.

This would be fantastic. Tkachuk is well suited to playing the off wing and would really give that top line the toughness it needs while not sacrificing on skill as they do with Ferland in that role.

If Jankowski also appears to be ready for the NHL I would love to see Bennett moved back on to the wing with Backlund and Frolik. These combinations in the top 6 would leave a lot of flexibility for glue gun to tinker with the bottom lines.

Gaudreau - Monohan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Jankowski - Versteeg
Lazar - Stajan - Brouwer

I totally agree, but add one additional option: Welcome Jankowski to the NHL!

Ya - usually it seems as there is more CP news on such a topic.

I read somewhere on calgaryflames.com that main camp opens on Friday. Not sure if that means Fitness Testing will be tomorrow? And what are the rookies doing right now? Don't they usually show up a bit early?

Jets released their training camp info including roster today. Hope the Flames do the same. I'd like to see who all from rookie camp gets an invite to main camp.

Update: Steinberg says roster will be announced this afternoon with the possibility of other PTOs (that last part is his own speculation)

Yah these calls SHOULD garner each 2-3 more PP's per game per team if players don't learn.

I am more curious though if they start calling a ton and then teams complain and they back off.. Or just stop in the playoffs.

Time will tell I suppose.

Lou on 960 thinks that Cramarossa will be right there around opening night. Didn't say he'd make the team but inferred it.

Not the first person I've heard who has suggested the Flames are pretty high on this guy.
