This is the interesting part, its the most pirated show in history, but its also the most profitable.

That being said though, I think you're on to something. I would totally watch a 'Game of Thrones' movie in theaters as a series finale. That would be pretty cool.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did something like this as an event for the finale. I know Dr Who did their Christmas special in theatres and included a 30 minute behind the scenes documentary about the episode. GoT could easily do this.

They could have it running on 2 or 3 screens per theatre at the same time on the Sunday night and they'd sell out.

They definitely have done a few finales for sure.

I think they could make a bigger production about it. Wouldn't be surprised if they could challenge for top 5 box office on a weekend and only have the showings on Sunday.

OH i meant don't show the finale on HBO at all, only in the theatres! Have it open on a Friday with all the other movies. No sneak peaks or early screenings. It would prob have the biggest Friday opening ever as no one wants to stay off the net all weekend.

No. Cant do that. That would fly in the face of their entire business model. HBO subscribers would be pissed and that would just be a disaster.

Just show it in theaters for people who are so inclined.

As long as it is still availble at the same time on HBO, have at it. I'd feel ripped off if I paid for an HBO subscription and it was only available in theatre. It's bad enough us westerners get it 2 hours later, and it's quicker to borrow it from "the library".

No, they are going to finish things. All the spinoffs are prequels as far as I know. I expect very few characters to be left alive at the end. Also, they need to defeat or be defeated by the white walkers. Any in-between would not do the series justice. Or it could all just be a dream from a plane crash while eating onion rings...fade to black.

I think a prequel about the Long Night works because the only thing we know is that the White Walkers lost. we generally don't know who the specific characters are and what their fates will be, and it doesn't even have to be limited to Westeros as supposedly the other continents were affected as well.

a prequel about something like Robert's Rebellion on the other hand, not too interested in unless the writing is out of this world. not gonna feel too tense when Ned Stark or Barristan Selmy ride into battle and find themselves on the brink of defeat.

Its a possibility, but just reading the press releases, the actors seem really sad that this is the end of the line for the show, but its also been a decade of their lives, they likely want to move on to other projects.
