Barrie and Brodie seem to be very similar to each other. Right down to their contract status'. Not sure we gain by adding Barrie and losing Brodie. Maybe one of our bottom six as the Leafs have been rumoured to want to improve there. A Barrie type defenseman would have been my last guess as a required addition.

And, I mean, I know what I'm talking about because I nailed Martinez to Vegas

I’d rather keep Brodie and not trade for Barrie. I think the flames should find a way to extend Brodie for 4 years. A cap hit similar to the rumored one for Muzzin will be ideal.

My understanding is that each NYC/NMC is different and depends how it's negotiated. Some players can submit a list each year and some players submit one at the start of the contract. For the most part the ones who submit each year its usually due July 1 I believe

That, and had a pretty monster couple of years for the Avs, prior to this season in Toronto. Treliving might be trying to get him on the cheap.

Not sure they’re all that similar TBH. I get real spooky Dennis Wideman vibes from Barrie.

Maybe I don't know.

It might be a deal we lose but get parts that fit our team more. Two right handed shots. Kapanen buried on the third line in TO, still on pace for over 4o points however.

I don't know, seems like more of an off-season trade. That'd be a major shake-up at the deadline, especially for two UFA d's.

It would have to be Hamonic for Barrie with a conditional pick on Hamonic playing in more than 10 games or something (playoffs included)

Except Toronto is fighting for a playoff spot, not sure they'd want an injured player who might not be back until the playoffs.

I really like Barrie and think he is really a guy that makes things happen from the back end. He just really needs a team to insulate him and time to actually learn HOW to play defence.

I think Barrie and Brodie are similar in their puck-movement, though I think Brodie is better. Brodie doesn't take huge risks like Barrie does - knows when to pinch, and is a better passer. Barrie has a better shot. In the defensive zone it is a HUGE step back. This team already is so 'scatter-brained' in their own zone at times, and adding someone like Barrie I feel would make it worse.

I like Barrie, and I wouldn't mind that the Flames acquire him - dependent on the price for sure - but not at the expense of Brodie now or next season. Maybe in a few seasons Barrie can be a better 2-way defencemen than what Brodie is now, but he is nowhere near Brodie IMO. I see Barrie as a great option to replace Hamonic with, and having him play on the third pairing. Great offensive tools and skating ability, but just so unreliable in his own end.

God, Calgary should STOP trading with Toronto.

I'd do this:

Barrie
Korshkov
Abramov

For

Hamonic
Petterson
Gillies

Barrie and Hammer are a wash IMO. With better offense coming from Barrie and slightly better defense from Hammer.

Korshkov is the gem in the trade for myself.

Seravalli on TSN says one of the proposals between the Flames and Leafs is Brodie for Barrie 1 for 1

The reasoning is that the d-men would be better fits on their new teams.

He says that it might be tabled for now

I'd want more if it was Brodie. Again Korshkov is what would make it happen.

Brodies a way better player. Not interested in trading him for Barrie.

I take it contract talks with Brodie are not going well.

Brodie for Barrie 1 for 1 would be a downgrade for us imo.

Wtf? How can the Flames possibly be thinking this? The underrating of Brodie is absurd, he's basically the perfect fit with Giordano.

I just don't see the point. UFA for UFA, similar players. Maybe the Flames know they can't or won't sign Brodie to an extension and they think they could sign an extension with Barrie.
