Flames Practice notes -- 02/20/2020

Still no Ryan in regular line rushes. Wonder if he's in the lineup vs BOS.

Even if he's not sick any more, he probably lost some weight and hydration. I'd rather he rest than practice anyway.

I fully expect Ryan in the lineup tomorrow.

With Bennett getting some traction on the third line, and the fact that Ryan was great last year leading the fourth line and playing special teams I wonder if we'll see a mix up on the bottom six going forward.

Lucic - Ryan
Bennett - Dube

pairings?

Does Bennett stay between Looch and Dube though?!!

If the real Sam Bennett has indeed (finally) stood up, then I like:

Monahan
Lindholm
Bennett
Ryan

more than

Monahan
Backlund
Ryan
Jankowski

Jeez, does Ryan have the Coronavirus, or something?

What? No. Mikael Backlund is still the Flames second- or third-best centre. If he is not playing down the middle then his gifts are wasted.

If we're talking Bennett at center I think you stick Janko on Ryan's wing and Rinaldo on Bennett's.

Rinaldo doesn't dress in my lineup

Jankowski - Bennett - Dube
Lucic - Ryan - Rieder

I was thinking this exact same thing the other night. It's kind of crazy how they are willing to flip flop Lindholm, Backlund, Bennett and even Ryan sometimes between C and W, but won't try Jankowski at wing

I think you roll with the top 9 as is. Make Ryan Center the 4th, move Janko maybe for a RW RHS and bring him up to speed on Ryan's wing. Then go from there. I cant imagine they want to screw Bennett down again since he is being a positive contributor as things are built right now. Let it ride.

I was alluding to trading him for a winger.

I'd keep that Lucic - Bennett - Dube line in tact. I think Lucic has been really effective on that line also, no need to break it up.

Ryan has shown the ability to make whatever line he plays on.. good. Reider/Rinaldo - Ryan - Jankowski

I wonder if Jankowski is bad on the wing in practice

Where would you put Monahan on that depth chart?

The cool thing about having Lucic and Bennett together is that it really puts the opposition defenders on guard. Those are two guys who can really rock you if you aren't paying attention.

Add in Dube's IQ and speed, that should be a very good forechecking line.
