New Sleater-Kinney single. I like it a lot. It starts a little sparse but finishes with Corin doing what she does best.

No idea how I missed this because I’m a huge fan of The Flatliners, but their vocalist Chris Cresswell has released a few singles the last few months. This one in particular is really good. Made me remember how much I love acoustic punk rock.

Brownstein responded with a lengthy statement that you can read below.
What am I supposed to say? She left. We asked her to stay. We tried. It’s hard and sad. Most people would ask me, ‘hey are you ok?’ That’s the human response. She’s left us with a job to do, a job we also expected and wanted her to be a part of. Her playing on this record is amazing and she’s raved about this album to us and to Annie. But we have to keep looking to the future. Things change, even when those changes are hard and unexpected. Four amazing women worked on this record and we are going to honor that work. So, what’s up? The usual…Women picking up the pieces when someone quits, because we have to and want to. We’re going to keep going because we believe in ourselves and it’s a privilege to get to play music for people. It’s a new chapter. And all artistic entities have many chapters, if they’re lucky. Either the music will resonate or it won’t.

The Replacements are releasing something July 23rd - probably archival.

It's a real shame about S-K. Janet Weiss was an equal contributor to that bands sound for 20 years, and they totally changed directions with the IMHO wildly overrated St. Vincent, and turned to a sound that basically ignored Janet's contributions. It's all guitar driven now, and that's a real shame.

We bought tickets to see their hometown show in PDX in November, and now I don't even care. We saw them there on the last tour, and that show kicked ass. They won't find someone who can replicate Janet's sound and energy on any of the prior material. It's not S-K anymore, no matter who they get.

Something else ruined by a millennial.

I just was not in any way impressed with that album.

It’s hot garbage. I can’t pinpoint why, but it’s a mess to me.

I don’t hate it but it took me a couple of listens to get into it. I watched their set from this past weekend’s Pitchfork Fest and they have a lot of energy live, especially their drummer.

I recently got back from a trip to the US where I saw a new album from Daniel Blumberg in a record store. Most people would know Blumberg from Yuck but his stuff with Hebronix is pretty different. Very reminiscent of Dirty Three. Also reminds me a little bit of Anders Parker and his work with Varnaline. I think this new album is really great.

Other items I picked up recently:

Also got the new double LP reissue of Metronomy's Nights Out, which is not a 2019 release. But Metronomy will be releasing a new album in September.

Tegan and Sara are going back to their roots with their new track. Gotta say I love it. Their newer stuff just wasn’t doing much for me. Excited to hear the rest of the album.

The Headstones just dropped a new single, and it's a barn burner. Album comes out this fall.
