Not surprisingly, Edmonton is having a tough time looking credible on these issues:

Would people be okay with "Esks". Edmonton Esks, keeps the "tradition" without using the term. I may be wrong about this, but Eskimo isn't prima facie racist, just ignorant.

Edit: Wouldn't even have to change their website.

Edmonton is keeping the 'Eskimos" name...

Or: There was no consensus, so we went with the easy way out.

Which is what makes this whole ordeal complex, and it's not black and white.

I think that if these terms are of endearment, then those that are suppose to be represented for the most part take no issue with it. Eskimos, Blackhawks, Braves, Seminoles are terms that in my opinion make you think of aboriginals fondly. Kinda like Fighting Irish for the Norte Dame team. We're not taking issue with them in this debate.

The only people's opinion that matters on this is the aboriginals themselves. And if a significant majority of them are fine with it, than there's not a need to change it. So that's why when these teams do these investigations, they're likely getting enough to support to justify keeping the name since it's not a term that's meant to be used in a offensive context.

The only team that probably should have their names changed are the Washington Redskins, and the Cleveland Indians. Those are ones that I could imagine may not have that much support within the aboriginal community.

What percentage of indigenous people need to find it offensive for you to want them to change it? 1? 10?

Thug is racist in the proper (or improper) context. It’s not catch-all racist.

The Stampeders Canadian content stands out on their all-time team with a whopping 14 nationals named, double the number required.

Doug Flutie beat out other legendary quarterbacks, including Henry Burris and Bo Levi Mitchell, while receiver Allen Pitts and linebacker Wayne Harris were shoe-in candidates as some of the greatest ever at their positions.

Kicker Rene Paredes was the lone current player on the list, with punter Rob Maver and DB Brandon Smith making the team the same offseason in which they retired.

Just stumbled on this...voting on the CFL all decade team at WR and DB...no surprise there is no shortage of Stampeders as candidates.

Voting ends Sunday.

Flutie, Pitts and the Sponge.

I cannot believe they only won one Grey Cup in Calgary.
