Yeah, it's too bad. All he needed was one other respectably low round and he'd likely be leading, but his iron game is just too pedestrian after day one.

It's amazing how golf works even for the pros. You wake up Thursday, stick everything close to flags and destroy a huge field with all the top golfers. You wake up Friday and don't.

I want to throw my clubs in a river when I take a 7.

I can’t imagine how chapped these guys get when they do it.

-17 in the clubhouse is looking good right now.

Brenden Todd just had a meltdown triple.

DJ just hit it OB on a easy par 5.

Hughes isn't out of this yet. Could still salvage a top 3.

Brenden Todd looks like a living example of South Park characterizing goofy, rich white people, lol. Just an aside, as it's exactly how they do it.

Also, figured they'd finish up tomorrow morning so didn't check back. Nice to see Hughes with a late -3 charge to finish T3.

Hughes made two bombs after the restart to jump up into a T3 finish. So good result for him overall.

Those 2 putts were the difference between $440k (t3) and $240k (6 way t5). He's only made 5 cuts this season that started in oct 19 and has a 2nd and t3.

Yep, that seems to be Hughes to a tee (ha!). He has what it takes to a win a tournament every once and a while but a lot of flame outs along the way.

Watching a lot of draft kings analysis it seems there's some beauty in that. I was amazed at how many players are amazing golfers, just consistent and really good at every aspect, but can't finish top 5 or win because they simply can't elevate any aspect of their game on a special weekend. They're incredible at maximizing their skills and turning it into consistency.

Then there's guys that you can't really bank in draft kings or betting sites, but they will taste victory because they can suddenly put something together that is better than the sum of their regular skills.

Which golfer would you rather be? The many middling, excellent golfers who don't win on the PGA tour or someone who often misses cuts, has blow ups and flame out rounds, but gets to taste victory a few times in his career?

I'd say it depends. If you're good enough to win at least once every couple years, then that keeps your card and gets you into majors. But if you can't do that and are in and out of the top 125 like Hughes has been, then that seems like a pretty stressful life and a 2nd and 3rd every year with a bunch of missed cuts isn't getting you into any majors.

The comparison Pay Mayo was making on youtube wasn't quite that, though. He was showing how the stats show a bunch of amazing golfers that have basically maximized their skills and consistency and place in the 15-50 range pretty consistently but their scores show that there is no special weekend in them and they don't win tournamens. There's no "his putting dialed in and he went berserk" because they've maximized who they are and what they can do.

It was in comparison to guys like Hughes who have that inconsistency and have a more volatile existence on tour but have that ability to put in a special weekend if one aspect of their game catches fire to place top 5 or win (which Hughes has done both).

What's the best betting sites for PGA, besides draft kings?

DeChambeau is definitely must see tv as someone mentioned above. I'm still not sure if I'm rooting against him or for him, but he is fun to watch. No joy while he's playing it seems, and for all his science, he sure gets out of sorts when things don't go right. This stretch he's played is pretty Tiger like though.

Nice to see Hadwin get a t4 today with another strong Canadian finish.

I'm a big fan of Bryson and really enjoy watching him play.
But I'm typically a fan of anyone that comes along in golf and is atypical and does thing differently. If he could figure out how to be more consistent and accurate with his approaches to the green he would be unstoppable right now. He is making far too many mistakes from short distances.

Canadians 1-2 after the morning groups today. Hadwin has been playing really well these days.

Rather excited about the Memorial this weekend, just odd not to have it on Memorial Day weekend.

Might try and catch some of the virtual Open they're hyping, using footage from previous Open championships. Just wish fan voting wasn't a component, as not too interested in a popularity contest.

Koepka could conceivably miss the playoffs this year. That would make me really happy.

Speaking of making people happy, here's a breakdown of Bryson's meltdown today.

Btw, the US Open will be back on NBC.

If only NBC could get the NBA back.

He's a much more entertaining heel than Patrick Reed.

He's like Happy Gilmore with Shooter McGavin's demeanor!
