I'm pretty happy with the LA setting. San Andreas was so much fun.

Did everyone see the Orange fields, oil well, and (what looked like) Mount Chilliad? They look awesome.

I try every time and I can't seem to get into the GTA games. I have tried multiple times, I just don't seem to like them. Oblivion I love, GTA I don't. Anyone else the same or opposite?

Really wish I didn't read the spoiler as it does reveal the end of the game. That being said with probably a year of development left things could change (and I could even forget).

Yeah, that pissed me off. I hope it is just a rumor. Sort of a dick move (not by Hack&Lube, but the guy who wrote the original piece) to unveil the ending. People can't leave anything as a secret these days.

I still think he should put a warning in that post mentioning how said link contains potential spoilers about the ending (I know it says "Spoiler" already, but I think people just assume its about gameplay/nuggets, and not the actual ending of the game), but ya I don't fault him for posting it either, its the person that made it who's being a dick. Everything else was helpful, harmless info about what to expect in the game, then for some reason he just throws out the ending. C'mon man.

But like Russic said, its still in production so things could change. That and when I played the new RDR last year I had the ending blown for me too by someone, and it didn't really hinder the game for me. GTA games aren't really about the ending as much as they are about tearing the streets up as much as humanly possible. Can't f'n wait for this one.

I am the same.

I will play GTA games for a week and then by that time I am already pretty much bored, the only one that really caught my attention for a long period of time was San Andreas

I loved the multiplayer on GTA4. You and three buddies driving around in a car, or having rocket launcher parties at the airport. Great times. Hope the new one brings some freshness to the franchise. The trailer showed a guy hammering in a for sale sign which immediately made me think of Vice City. Hope they incorporate property ownership.

I really think that SA and not IV was the best game in the franchise to this point.

The world was absolutely massive and the misisons in the main story were incredibly varied.

The addition of thw whole Jets, Helicopters thing really opened things up to the simple pleasures of flying your plane into a building while jumping to safety in the nick of time. Or taking a Harrier on a strafing run through Lost Wages.

While there were some missions that were incredibly frustrating (The one where you chase the dudes with the brief cases on a quad while your girl friend screams at you, to the one where you chase down the mafia plane for the most part the missions were fair but challenging.

I went back and played it again for the first time in years a few months ago and was amazed at how much content I had missed before, like UFO stuff which I had never seen before.

GTA San Andreas is the best game ever imo. Massive map with varied locations and a different feel in each city, unbelievable amount of content and things to do, fun and interesting story, great characters and a fun variety of weapons and vehicles. Flamethrowers and miniguns to samarai swords and giant dildos. Tanks and full sized passanger planes to go carts, nascars and bicycles

I've never had as much fun with a game, if this is just like San Andreas with the poish of GTA IV it'll be great

The only thing that was really missing in GTA SA was a fully destroyable environment.

How much fun would it be to actually drive a tank through a house.

Or fly a plane into the top of one the casino's to watch it burn.

Or fire a tank round into one of those big oil storage units on the coast.

It would be fun to see a little more craziness from the non playable characters too. It would be nice to put on a bat man costume and break up muggings in a back alley.

But other then that SA was as perfect as you can get.

I'm going to have to install SA on steam and play it. I only made it through the first 5 or 6 missions.

Vice City will always be my favourite in the series, mostly because a) it was my first GTA game I played, and b) that soundtrack & setting is too awesome, you just can't beat 80's Miami.

But I think its mostly nostalgia, because when I heard about V I got excited and dusted off Vice City. Played it for a couple hours and honestly, it hasn't aged well. Then I took it out and flipped to San Andreas and now I'm just cracking out on it, its definitely the funner one to play. So much more to do too. Been sick in bed with bronchitis so this is probably the rest of my week, I'm on board.

R* made the right decision by making the new one basically an update of SA, they knew which the best of the series was. Now when I drive around the SA map I keep imagining how unbelievable its going to look on the 360 next year, frankly it gets my pants tight.

IIRC correctly Rockstar games had the same hopes for San Andreas but then 9-11 occurred and they scrapped the idea during the design process of the game.

The last thing they wanted was people flying planes into the big towers located in San Andreas.

I did it anyways, but it wasn't as cool to see my plane bounce off of the building and following my slowly parachuting self to the ground.

One of the other fun things to do was to steal 20 cars and line them up, and then shoot the first one in the gas tank to see if you can hit the mythical hundred car explosion mark.

That was the funnest thing to do in the GTA series.

So looking forward to GTA V. I'm also happy that it's taking a more fun route then a realistic route. The chaotic potential in the GTA universe is what makes it so fun.

I've seen it a few times now in this thread, what about Vice City hasn't aged well? I dont' really have the time to pull it back out and give it a rip, so I'm just curious as to your perspective on it.

In my mind, Vice City is still my favourite GTA game, I mentioned that in an earlier post. San Andreas is an extremely close second. VC mostly wins based on atmosphere, setting and soundtrack. SA is definitely better in sheer (shear?) scope. Hopefully they'll do what they did with GTA IV and have spin offs that are near full games but in the VC setting, likely wishful thinking. Would Florida work in the same way Cali worked for SA?

I'd like to echo the desire to return to a more fun GTA and less realistic. Sitting on top of a parking garage in GTA 3 shooting cops, their cars and their helicopters down till the tanks came was one of my favourite memories.

To me the best things about SA were the customizations that you could do. My Carl Johnson avoided the gym like the plague, was addicted to Taco's and tattoos. I swear I had the guy up to about 400 pounds, he couldn't climb a ladder, he couldn't run half a block, and he couldn't scale a wall taller then his ankles.

A few things that stood out for me were:

1) I don't like how you can't look around with the right joystick. It didn't bother me at the time, but now going back to it, after being used to doing it in SA, IV, and other newer Rockstar games, I found it awkward not being able to do it anymore. I know it still lets you in that choppy 1st person mode, but once you let it go you're facing your original direction, not the one you were last facing in FPV.

2) Water kills you. Nuff said.

3) When close combat fighting, you can't lock on to someone. Basically just have to swing in their general direction and hope you hit them. Pretty sloppy.

4) In map mode, not being able to place a blip for where you want to go, leading to you constantly having to pause to make sure you're headed in the right direction. This especially sucks when you have directional sense like a 70 year old woman, like Sainters.

5) Just crappier graphics. After playing VC, its amazing how much better SA looks, considering its the same system and only 2 years later.

I agree with you that VC will forever (at least to date) be my favourite in the series too, in terms of when it came out, and not in reflection compared to the others. That setting/soundtrack is just way too awesome, I really hope R* updates it at some point like they seem to be doing with SA now. I just find that it doesn't have a lot of replayability anymore, at least in terms of playing story mode for hours & hours. Its still fun today to plug in, rip around in for an hour or 2 and listen to 80's pop. But after that it just gets a little boring, I lose interest.

The glitches still rule though, best ones ever in that game. Yesterday when I played it I smashed into the outdoor cafe and had my car somehow hovering directly above a smashed table umbrella with me still inside. It was awesome.
