I believe this signing comes after Talbot told the Flyers he wouldn't be back.
More smoke to him landing in Calgary.

His numbers have been slipping steadily after St. Louis. That said it's not like there's a lot of cheap, low cost options out there.

It is not a bad backup option for the flyers. Familiarity with the team, and giving veteran support. He has been on a downward trajectory for the last few years, but he has been counted on a starter, during this time.

Calgary should have been his last contract. The Flyers have to be high not only to have signed him in the first place but to bring him back.

It could be that, but it could also be that Talbot took a bit less to play for a contender, and share the net as part of a tandem.
I think the latter is more likely, all things considered.

Cam Talbot let #Flyers know he wants to go to a team where he will play more. Hopes to be a starter somewhere.
Dave Isaac @davegisaac
Chuck Fletcher said the #Flyers spent a lot of time speaking with other goalies during this UFA courting period and it sounds like Talbot and Elliott were the top two choices. Talbot was looking for a route to being a No. 1 again which turned the Flyers off.
