Icon25 Avs trade Soderberg to Coyotes for Connauton and 3rd

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Something coming down between COL and ARIZ. Sounds like Carl Soderberg and Kevin Connauton involved

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Colorado trades Soderberg to Arizona.

Avs are up to something....this gives them about 40 million in cap space.

They dont have their 3rd rd pick next year so if its an offer sheet, its a big one.

Yeah it's interesting for sure. I don't really see a reason for them to trade Soderberg. He had 49 points last year and they need more offensive depth, not less. They might be trying to make a big splash- rumors that they have met with Panarin as well.

It’s been awfully quiet on the Duchene front. I wonder if they would look at bringing him back?

I think it's pretty much a given with the PK trade that Duchene goes to Nashville. They have wanted him for a long time and he wants to be there.

They look to me to be thinner at centre than they are on the wings, especially with Soderberg on his way out. This is an intriguing thought.

It didn't sound like it was the most smooth of trades. First Duchene requested one, never pleasant, and then when he got it there was some snide comments from other Av players. The standard "we want players who want to be here" type stuff but I doubt either side is looking at the other as the main option at this point.

They have 13 players signed. They need to sign at least 10 guys, with Rantanen ($9M ?) being one and Zadorov ($4M ?) being another, which would leave them with $22M for the other 8 guys. If they re-sign Colin Wilson it will probably cost the $4-5M for the UFA so they are down to $18M for 7 guys. Cap gets a little tighter.

Why would they offer sheet Tkachuk who they ran circles around in the playoffs when they can offer sheet Marner?

This is scary because now I'm pretty convinced that Artemi Panarin will be an Av. They can afford to sign Panarin AND Bobrovski and I'm not sure anyone else can sign both

Maybe there is something like a Kadri for Barrie coming up?

Tyson is definitely gone, Byram can likely step right in this year.

Still would need to make more space to pull that off. They have 13M in cap space of which 10-11 of which will go to Josi's new deal.

Colorado could be taking a cap dump from Vegas too. Stastny or Pacioretty perhaps?.

But Josi's new deal will not kick in until next year. There is still lots of time for Nashville to continue to clear space before then.

Yeah this means they are adding something for sure. Soderberg had 49 points last year, was 5th in team scoring, and was just sold as a cap dump.

Maybe Panarin but to me this feels like maybe more of a second deal. They had a great draft and could maybe ship out some other assets.

Unless the rumors are true that the Canes are listening to offers on Aho. Him and Mackinnon as a 1-2 center punch would be pretty deadly.

Like Textcritic said, Josi's new deal will not kick until next season. He is also currently taking up 4 million of the cap so say his new deal is worth 9 million/year it's only an additional 5 million. No worries there.

Next offseason they have Granlund, Smith, Watson, and Hamhuis coming off the books which is 12.35 million right there so they really don't have to clear any more space to sign Duchene.
