Talbot has an elite season under his belt and was good for the Rangers before that. I'm surprised some are so down on him after a couple of down seasons playing for a team that is historically bad. Even Carey Price would look like garbage playing for that ####show.

I’m not sure Philadelphia is the best goaltender laundering operation but we can hope the short change of scenery has helped with Talbot’s post Oiler traumatic stress disorder.

If the Flames do sign Talbot (as a back-up to David Rittich), I sure hope that it is on a low cost, short, 'show me' deal (1 to 2 years max). Please stop giving out 5 year deals to risky players.

I like Rittich, I like Talbot. And it feels like the best option without a trade.
I still don’t like pinning a season’s + success on those two though. If Tre ever leaves unceremoniously, this goalie situation may be his legacy.

Talbot comes to Calgary and wins the Vezina his first year. Kinda like Hall with the Hart and Schultz with the Cup.

Hemsky was totally fine when he left Edmonton. He was already 30-years old, and he performed better upon arriving in Ottawa, and then followed that up with another solid season in Dallas. Your comparison of Steve Staios is hilarious since he was over 35-years-old when he left Edmonton.
On the contrary, there is an impressive recent history of success for players who escaped from Edmonton: Dubnyk, Petry, Schultz, Hall, Eberle, Aberg, Strome, Caggiula. Hell, even Ryan Spooner looked better once he left Edmonton.
The story of improvement of players upon leaving the Oilers is LONG and spectacular.

Talbot is a tough call because he didn't have that much to do in Philly, and obviously thing with the Oilers went very sour off-ice. He had that one really good year but is otherwise another question mark.
|
Talbot had the one fantastic year in Edmonton, but prior to 2017 he had another excellent first season as a starter, and another two stellar years in NYR.
I think this is a very shrewd pickup for the Flames; Talbot is two years removed from Verona contention, and is a prime candidate to rebound.

I wanted them to get Talbot from NYR, and I think he's a good gamble now. He faced the most shots in the league since he started playing in Edmonton, and knowing how Edmonton plays defense, those were high quality shots too. He was one of two reasons they made the playoffs and the only reason they won a round in 2017.
Rittich/Talbot could be a very promising tandem, and him recovering form and sticking it to the oil would be extra sweet

Yeah, the Oilers were terrible, but he was bad too. He rightfully lost his spot to Koskinen. Let that sink in.
I understand that there aren't a lot of free agent options out there. Hoping for Mrazek, but he won't come cheap.

I'm no Talbot fan, but I think he would be fine here on a team with an actual defence, good leaders, and a desire to win. There's other options being talked about, but I don't think any of them will materialize-and we can't land any big fish with our cap situation.

His confidence was completely shattered after two seasons behind one of the worst teams in the NHL. Prior to last year Talbot played 153 games in two straight seasons. He was understandably exhausted, and it is little wonder he faltered in a fourth year of being tasked to keep that pathetic team afloat.
Cam Talbot is a good goalie.

If Talbot is being brought in, he will be the back up. It's BSD's team.

Win and you’re in. I think the Flames run a tandem next year between Rittich and whomever is added.

yeah, i don't know if i am a fan of this or not... Talbot was phenomenal in the Oilers playoff year, but then really slid badly.
if he had some off ice issues, its maybe understandable, a bounce back is no mean guaranteed... tho i think he'll easily be better than he was in Edmonton
not my number one option, but you don't want to overpay a guy to come to calgary either, esp if he's platooning or, hopefully, mentoring Rittich to be the #1...
surprised he's not staying in Philly though; thought him and Hart were friends and that's one of the reasons philly got him in the first place?

I disagree...the Oilers are just dumb and went with the younger guy. Talbot was their real MVP (and league MVP) the year they won the division and almost made the third round.
