2014-15 Flames' NCAA Prospects, General Discussion Thread
With Gaudreau and Arnold joining the Flames, Boston College is no longer on the list of teams to follow for Flames fans during this year's NCAA season. The drafting of Brandon Hickey means that Boston University is now on the list of teams to follow.
Here are the NCAA teams with Flames picks on their rosters:
A couple of preseason polls have been released this week, and Providence was chosen as the preseason favourite to win Hockey East this season; and Colgate was picked to win ECAC.

http://gocolgateraiders.com/news/201...923142823.aspx
Last season was a disappointing one for Deblouw, who struggled as a sophomore, after a solid freshman year. Will he be able to regain his form and showcase his skills as a solid defensive centre?
Harrison was used sparingly during his freshman season on a Colgate roster that relied heavily on its upper-classmen. His role should increase this season, and we should be able to see more of what he's capable of.
Gillies had a great start to the season last year, and looked like he was as ready to turn pro as that other kid named John. He suffered a minor injury either just before or at the World Juniors and didn't really return to form until just before the playoffs. He backstopped the Friars to their first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2001 (shutting out Quinnipiac); and allowed the fewest goals to the eventual National Champions, Union, as any goalie in the tournament. With a strong season, this could be the third straight year that a Flames' pick with the initials JG makes it to the Hobey Baker Final Three.
If the rumours from the summer are true, Jankowski has crossed the 200 pound threshold, and could be shaping into the power forward we all hope he can become.
Gilmour was a solid defenceman for the Friars last season, and still has the potential to possibly make it as a pro.
Hickey is starting his college career as a Boston Terrier after playing the last couple of seasons with Spruce Grove of the AJHL. He will be a teammate of highly-touted prospect, Jack Eichel, at BU this season. Depending on how the Flames' season goes, Eichel might be another reason to follow the Terriers this season.

I like the idea of this thread. Someone should make one for our CHL prospects. It kind of nicely divides up the discussions instead of there being one general thread for all of our prospects.

Lots of exhibition games today between NCAA teams and some Canadian Universities. There are only two that might feature Flames picks: BU plays St. Thomas at 2:00pm MT and Colgate plays Queen's at 5:00pm MT.
A few more preseason rankings have come out in the last few days.
CollegeHockeyNews.com has released their top-10 ranking: http://www.collegehockeynews.com/new...son_top_10.php. Providence is #2 behind perennial powerhouse, Minnesota. Colgate is on the list at #5.
The preseason polls also came out this week. USCHO.com has Providence at #3, Colgate at #6, and Boston University at #20. The USA Today/USA Hockey poll has Providence at #3 and Colgate at #5.

Harrison didn't play in Colgate's 7-1 win Saturday night.
BU won their game 12-1. Hickey had 3 assists in the game. Jack Eichel had 5 assists.

Was he a healthy scratch? Wouldn't be a good sign if that was the case.

Oh my
I have a gut feeling BU and BC are going to have some barn burners this season. Both rosters look outsanding.

The NCAA regular season got underway tonight...
BU was on the road at Massachusetts, and laid a beat-down on the home team, winning 8-1. Future first rounder, Jack Eichel had a 4 point third period for the Terriers, with 2 goals and 2 assists. Hickey was held off the score sheet but finished the night with a +4 rating.
Providence made the trek to Columbus to open their season against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Gilmour didn't play, still nursing an injury sustained during the Flames rookie camp. Jankowski got one assist in the game. Gillies stopped 20 of 25 shots. Three PP goals against in the third and OT were the Friars' undoing, dropping the game 5-4. The two teams play again tomorrow night.
Colgate is currently still playing. Late in the second, Colgate leads St Cloud 2-1. Harrison has not been on the score sheet.
MSU isn't playing this weekend.
The Gaudreau/Arnold/Hayes-less BC Eagles dropped their season opener to UMass Lowell 5-2.

Providence won the second game 2-1 in OT. Gillies stopped 25 of 26.
Jankowski, from what I could tell, didn't touch the scoresheet.

Providence is playing an exhibition game against the USA Under-18 team tonight, but it looks like none of the Flames kids are playing. Jankowski and Gilmour are still nursing injuries, and Gillies gets a rare night off (presumably because it's an exhibition game).
This is the Friars only game this week. Hopefully all hands will be healthy for their games next weekend.

Colgate defeated Northeastern 3-0 on Friday night. Harrison played, but did not get on the score sheet.
Michigan State defeated UMass 5-3. Matt DeBlouw scored his first of the season, and it was the GWG.
BU and PC didn't play on Friday night.

Would be nice if DeBlouw could get himself back on the map this season.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT!
No games for Providence until Friday night in North Dakota.
Boston University played an exhibition game against the USA Under-18 team, winning 6-4. Hickey was scoreless, but had 3 shots and was a +1. Eichel had 2 goals and 1 assist.
Michigan State played UMass. UMass scored two goals in the last 5 minutes of the third, including one with 10 seconds left, to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 win. DeBlouw had 1 shot and was a +1. DeBlouw took the second-most faceoffs for the Spartans, going 9 for 17 in the dot.
Colgate defeated Northeastern 3-0 for the second night in a row. This time, Harrison got on the score sheet, getting an assist on Colgate's first goal.

For the first time this season, all four teams with Flames prospects were in action on Friday night.
It was not a good night for Jon Gillies or the Providence Friars as they visited the #3 ranked North Dakota No Names. Gillies was given the hook after allowing 4 goals on 24 shots in two periods. The final score was 6-1 for UND. John Gilmour played his first game of the season and tallied an assist on Providence's lone goal. Mark Jankowski is still nursing the upper-body injury he sustained in their first game and didn't make the trip. The two teams play again tomorrow night.
Two Flames prospects went head-to-head tonight in Boston as the BU Terriers faced the Michigan State Spartans. It was a low-scoring affair that saw the Terriers win 1-0. DeBlouw and Hickey both only got onto the scoresheet in the penalty column. DeBlouw went to the box twice, and Hickey was sent once. DeBlouw went 5 for 10 on faceoffs. Both teams are in action again tomorrow, but not against each other. MSU travels to UMass-Lowell and BU hosts Michigan.
Colgate continued their strong start to the season with a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart. It was the biggest game of Tim Harrison's college career so far. He had 1 goal and 1 assist for his first two-point game. Harrison's first college goal was scored on the powerplay and stood up as the game winner. The two teams play each other again tomorrow afternoon.

Tim the Enchanter summons fire!
Colgate defeated Sacred Heart again this afternoon by a final score of 4-2. Tim Harrison treated Sacred Heart like they were the mini-bike game at the Stampede, scoring twice for Colgate. The first was a powerplay tally with 2 seconds left in the second. Then, he netted the game winner with 2:11 left in the third.
Harrison is now on a three game point streak and has a point on each of the last three game winners for the Raiders (one assist and two goals). He now has 5 points on the season (all in the last three games), which ties his total output for all of last season.

Sacred Heart is a relatively small school in Connecticut. Kevin Nealon and John Ratzenberger are alumni. They are not a hockey powerhouse by any means.
Total attendance for today's game was 248.
