Default Calgary vs Toronto, 7:00 MT

Following a 3-2 setback on Sunday afternoon, the Flames look for revenge against the Leafs tonight. It’s a rare Canadian back to back that will only happen 182 more times this season in the Scotiabank North Division.

Players to watch:

Matthew Tkachuk: After narrowly avoiding a suspension for playing hockey, Tkachuk will look to continue his agitating ways on the doorstep of Freddy Andersen. Apparently newcomer Jacob Markstrom has taught him some new Swedish swear words to use in the context of Andersen’s mother.

Auston Matthews: After returning to the lineup following an upper body injury, Matthews was credited with the game winning goal even though it was scored by Rasmus Andersson. The Arizona native will look to “lawyer” his way onto the scoresheet again tonight.

GFG!

EDIT: Projected lineup looks the same as Sunday based on the morning skate (per Pat Steinberg and Derek Wills):

Tkachuk-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Gaudreau-Monahan-Simon
Bennett-Backlund-Leivo
Lucic-Ryan-Nordstrom

Giordano-Andersson
Hanifin-Tanev
Valimaki-Nesterov

Markstrom

Just fn win, I don't care how. I forgot to say that last GDT after saying it the first two against the Canucks.

Gotta win. I am watching the game with my buddy. He already got to rub in the game 2 days ago.

Too which the hockey world will Decry Tkachuk for goonish language and demand his banishment from the league.

Scorp didn’t make the GT, so we win.

Thanks for the sacrifice of holding back, Scorp!

I guess it beats the drama the media tried to manufacture for the last game, where the story was how the Leafs gutted out a win after having to travel

Not sure why they are such delicate flowers

6-2 Flames

Wait that was an actual story?

That's hilarious. Pretty sure their travel schedule is usually one of the easiest

I'm betting that Tkachuk draws one, if not two, penalties today.

Feeling good about this one! After a 5 day break the Flames outplayed Toronto through the majority of the game and only lost due to bad bounces last game. Tonight will be an even more focused and honed in squad in red. Should roll through to a big win....4-1? We'll see

Feeling strangely confident about the team this year overall.

Haven't felt like that for a very long time. Not even when we were top of the Western conference couple of years ago.

I think it may have something to do with our goalie.

Hopefully Dube can play again soon.

Yeah, they (Toronto anchors) talked about it on Sportsnet, the travel day Saturday followed by a matinee against a team coming off a 5 day break

Then it was the gutsy goalie performance, battling through an injury. The goalie downplayed it during his interview

Finally they found the footage of Tkachuk being Tkachuk and that is what they are rallying around

I am the same. I think the ceiling is the same, but the floor is higher, than 2 years ago. With the depth, the solid D core, and the goaltending, it just feels like even the down stretches won't be that down.

I believe that we will be solidly in a playoff spot, wire to wire.

If Lucic is in, and I suspect that is the case, I'd like to see him moved to a line with Backlund & Bennett. Lucic & Nordstorm just isn't working. Give everyone a fighting chance.

I'm glad some of you feel good about this team and I hope you are right. It seems like the goaltending is fixed but the overall results have been overly familiar for my taste. Lose the opener again. Not looking overly sharp after an extended break losing to a Leafs team that hasn't looked very good. Until this team actually goes out and takes care of business I have as little confidence as I usually do with this team.

Would like to see this. I missed a chunk of last game, but I feel it's been pretty much the same so far. My slight preference would be if Nordstrom sat, but I guess as long as one is sitting.

It's going to be interesting to watch Lucic this season. He looks like he's lost a step, or is trying to do too much?

If you break it down he's had two miserable games and two decent games by the metrics. The interesting point, as many have mentioned is the two horrible games came with Nordstrom on the other side.

Nordstrom doesn't have the two good games ... just the two bad, so the inkling would be he's the heaviest anchor, but yeah they should split them up and see.

If Lucic starts going in and out of the lineup you have to wonder what he does. My thought is always why would a guy retire when he has money coming, but he hinted he was thinking of just that under Peters.

His xgf% game log ...
at Wpg 6%
vs Vcr 53%
vs Vcr 77%
vs Tor 10%
