Really strange timing. Hopefully it’s not because of something serious going on with him or his family.

It’s a tweet so it’s hard to read into limited verbiage but it seems pretty cold if it’s a health concern.

He’s apparently a really influential hockey person in GM circles (so I’ve read). Hopefully he’s okay.

From Colin Dunlap’s Twitter (Pittsburgh radio host)

I am told by multiple sources this morning Jim Rutherford was working on a Kris Letang trade to one of the teams he can be traded to.
Ownership did not want him doing this.
It forced an untenable situation.
So here we are.

I get it. Only a few good years left with Crosby and Malkin. When you have two players of their caliber you go for it every year and worry about the future when it comes.

So I guess win-now mode means keeping Letang. I get that, but I could also see why Rutherford might want to make a move, especially if it means opening up some cap space and recouping draft picks.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Well if his Hornqvist-Matheson trade was any indicator, I figured we were getting Letang for Lucic.

Your organization is in trouble when ownership begins deciding what hockey moves are good or bad for the team and it's no wonder why he walked away if true.

Not to get all TMZ, but hopefully it doesn't have anything to do with this: https://triblive.com/sports/former-a...t-allegations/

IMO the Penguins are a team headed in the wrong direction. So, honestly it kind of makes sense for there to be a change in the GM position

As a Pens fan, Thank god! he has been ripping this team apart since 2018.

Next Sully has to go, the team has no heart playing for him anymore.
