To be clear, I’d rather us land Stone for more but if it was between a 1st, Kylington, and Jankowski for Duchene and Dube, 2nd for Hayes, I think I’d take the latter.

I understand the appeal but think his contract demands (assuming he is even willing to re-sign) would not be something palatable in the long run IMO.
I agree with you in the sense that I have no interest in trading away Kylington but one thing I also take into consideration is scoring is up in the league this year and his near pt/g status isn't as impressive as it would have been in years past.
I would love to add him but I just value Dube's longterm potential more than I do adding him I guess.
If we could add him while keeping our 1st, Dube and all the young D I would certainly be all for it.
Those assets are just too valuable IMO.

A UFA that's going to command 8M+ in the off season and has a terrible track record in the playoffs.

He’s strictly a rental. Not a chance he re-signs. The window to win is small. Gotta shoot your shot.

Flames >
2019 3rd round pick
Conditional 2020 4th round pick (conference finals)
Andrew Mangiapane
Rangers <
Mats Zuccarello
I think Eat Bread is getting a longer cup of coffee because he's also being showcased, and the Flames plan on bringing up Quine (47 points in 36 AHL games) after the deadline when there are no waiver concerns.

Flames receive:
Marcus Johansson
Devils receive:
Spencer Foo
2020 2nd round pick (conditional, becomes 2019 1st round pick if Flames reach Cup Finals)
Then the Flames extend Johansson 4 x $5,000,000

I would absolutely not trade Bread Eater in a deal for a 31 year old UFA Zuccarello.
I think Mangiapane as well as Dube are being criminally underrated by a few on the board.

I like this but I don't think we'd need to include the condition on that pick. We'd also probably have to go 5-6 years of Johansson (but that'd be reasonable in my eyes). Johansson is probably my 4th favourite target after Stone, Panarin and Duchene.

Why?
He really doesn't fill a need on this team that requires that sort of commitment.

So you give up three assets to bring in Bobrovsky, when the goaltending marketplace appears to be pretty flat, and then only for a 30 game push? Horrible asset management.

It's really not though. Much of the core is just entering their prime years with a few pieces like Gio and Backs getting older but not necessarily unproductive. A lot of pieces are signed for several years and guys like Lindholm have extremely team friendly deals.
We haven't seen this team in the playoffs. Why shift around things for a big deadline splash when there could be a several year window of being contenders with much of this lineup?

The goal here is to win the cup. Without a goalie consider this year a wash.

The most Treliving has ever given up for a pure rental is a 3rd round pick for Michael Stone, which cost a 5th to re-sign. A solid #4-5 defenceman.
This deadline is a buyer's market. If we do go the route of pure rental, it'll be for a depth scorer in a decent value deal. It is very hard to justify going all out for the big fish impending UFAs when our window to win basically just opened.
https://twitter.com/user/status/1096070922073661440
I'm hoping Treliving can talk that down to a 3rd rounder and a prospect down the depth chart, like Brett Pollock.

Goalies are fickle, and a great goalie can go ice cold, or a bad goalie can get red hot at just the right or wrong time and it is very noticeable due to the position they play.
Last year the Preds had the Vezina winner during the regular season but he ended up being the weak link in the playoffs, yet the year before the same goalie probably would have won the Conn Smythe had the Preds beat the Pens in the finals.

Still got 20 games left in the season. A run to the finals is 25 game (ish). I guess you just burn another year of this cores window and land a goalie some other time?

No. With a group as young and inexperienced as the Flames you consider this year a step in the right direction, and something to build on.
This is atrociously short-sighted.

In the summer. The right time to add a goaltender is in the summer.
And like I said, you're not "burning" years of players who collectively look as though they only have one or two runs left in them. This group should be competitive for a long time. In Treliving's press availability yesterday he talked about building with this group for years beyond just this one.

So if you do it, and don't win the cup (which is still far more likely than not) the year is a wash, plus you list the assets.
