He only makes $650K.
I think he is overrated by a lot of people who just remember he was on the WJC team. He's been waived a couple times at least.

Thanks, I thought Washington was right up against the Cap - to the point they couldn't make the Hagelin deal. I was mistaken.

Actually I think he now makes $1M. He was signed for $650 and then extended.

Too bad the team didn't take a chance on DSP. Plays a heavy game and would be a perfect 12th-13th forward. If the team needs a heavier line in the playoffs, he could add that element.

Heavy is right. He's 223 pounds, but only 6 feet tall. That's thick.

It was reporting the Caps held him out for most of the pre-season for reporting out of shape and he had similar issues with the Canadians.

Not a great sign if 29 either teams didn't want him...
Per capfriendly, there are only 9 teams who don't have 23 guys on their roster right now, so I guess that's part of it...just not a helpful move so close to the deadline
Neal is not officially on LTIR yet? I suppose that would have been a spot, but I'm sure BT wants someone better for the pressbox forward down the stretch

DSP had a really good playoffs with the Capitals last year. But he has bounced around a few places. He is a guy with tools that teams like, but struggles to find any long term consistency with his play. I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't find his way back up by the playoffs.

Think this is the big thing.
Playoff teams probably don't want to pick up a waiver wire player 5 days before the trade deadline when they might be adding other players to their active roster then.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they were hoping he would get through.

Calling Devante Smith Pelly a "proven playoff performer" is like calling Alex Chiasson a first line winger. An absurdly high shooting percentage in a small sample is not a good reason to pick someone up.

Very similar game. Only difference is that DSP has a playoff resume.
Maybe Lazar could be a playoff hero if given the opportunity?
|
Not much better but definitely better.
But he's not good either. That said, I'm kind of surprised no one took him off waivers.

You know who else was a proven playoff performer?
Fernando Pisani.

He's better than Lazar in pretty much every way albeit not by a great amount. Not to say he's good (he isn't) but he is at least a bit better than Lazar.

Devante Smith-Pelly has not yet reported to Hershey. A team spokesperson for the Bears has said he is expected to join the team in the next few days.
