Bobrovsky's success in Columbus coincided with Ian Clarke working with him. Since Clarke left for Vancouver, Bobrovsky's game has deteriorated and Markstrom has turned into a near elite goalie.
I think Trotz should get more credit then you give though. I don't think it's fair to even put Gulutzan in the same sentence as Trotz. Trotz is a very good coach, a very good defensive coach. All his teams have been stingy defensively.

I don't think it needs to be a "Sigalet bashing thread" to recognize that Mitch Korn and Ian Clarke are probably the best goaltending coaches in the NHL. That does not itself mean that Sigalet is terrible.

I was the biggest Gully basher on CP for two years, but he was a very good defensive coach. He was just inept in anything pertaining to player usage, offense, power plays, or common sense.

Hoping he doesn't turn into a Pumpkin but the MO on Smith this year is that he has played ok in a limited roll but when hes getting a bunch of starts his play drops.

I wonder if Smith is being showcased. Odd they wouldn't go with Ritter for this game tonight to get him back in the crease.

The top line hasn't been very good for a while now. Maybe this is the night they break out again? Really need to win this game and start building a cushion against the Sharks again.

I thought the goals that beat Smith last game were definitely savable. Feels like Peters is hell bent on trying to get Smith to be a goalie he is just not capable of being anymore. The frog will get his first taste of Flames hockey in a couple weeks so maybe he can produce some magic. Still don't like the Smith call though.

Kinda looking forward to this game. I've barely watched the Islanders this year but they are a great story and an easy team to root for in part because every time Barzal scores an Oiler fan cries.
Not that I want that to happen tonight.

Sportselect Info
Islanders Win = 2.9
Goes to Shootout = 3.6
Flames Win = 1.8
Over 5.5 = 1.5
Under 5.5 = 1.95
Worried about Smith starting this one as I don't think the Flames can out score poor goal tending given how stingy the Islanders have been. Hopefully we get the competent version of Smith we've been seeing lately and the Flames can eke out a 3-2 win with a strong performance on the power play.

Interesting to see the Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk top line - all three guys in a big slump. Hopefully they can help each other get out of it!

Lazar, a second, and Sigalet to the Canucks for Ian Clarke

The Flames wouldn't get him. He has coached goalies in the NHL for 18-years, and has only ever worked for Barry Trotz.

That's two games in a row for that line. They played together on Monday.

I don't know what you guys have been seeing in Smith that has anyone worried. There's 'saveable' goals going in on goalies every night, but he's played solid IMO. His puck moving abilities are very useful, and he's turned the page on his horrible start to the season
I think we should be excited to see what he can do against NYI. I'm anxious to get Rittich going again too, but I'm also really curious to see how Smith plays against a top team again.
I don't think earlier commentary on Smith is relevant to his latest games IMO

Doesn't really make much more sense to put Rittich in over Smith right now.
Smith has played fairly well in 3 straight starts while Rittich has struggled over a pretty long stretch the last little while.
Might as well ride the hot hand.
