Flames need to overpay if they have to if only to keep him out of our western opponents hands!

I'll preface this by saying Ferland is one my favorite all time Flames and I was in on him as a player early, super early. Like watching Brandon Wheat Kings vs Hitmen games with my Uni buddies in 2012 specifically for him and getting excited about what kind of player he could be early. I get Treliving inquiring about him because he'd be a great add to our bottom 6 but I think it's unlikely because of the optics for the Hurricanes getting worked in the initial trade trading him back. If I'm their GM my asking price from the Flames is 30% higher than from other teams and if there's a half dozen interested parties that price is already pretty high. The second part is even if we get him I doubt we could, or mainly should, re-sign him. One of the best parts of BT's genius trade is that he was trading high on Ferland, coming off a year of good production with one year left before UFA. This was great because it netted us two great assets, but also because after this year the Flames would be faced with either losing him for nothing, or signing him to an exorbitant deal. Trading for him now brings that situation back somewhat, although this time we have Lindholm and Hanifin so slightly better.
I'd like him back for the right price but that price definitely isn't a first round pick.

Hopefully Ferly gets traded to an American team out East and signs a big deal out there.
Love the player, would love him back, but probably not at the cap hit it will take.
Anywhere but Canada Ferly.

I think the cost for acquiring ferland will be higher than most people think. He brings a mix of size/speed/grit/skill that not many other FA forwards that are available for trade. Plus he can play up and down the line up and still be an impact player.
I would much rather go after ferland than Simmonds. His speed and his age make him a better target IMO. I think lots of teams will think the same thing. They’ll all be hoping he’ll be cheaper to acquire as well but I think it will cost more because of that increased interest.

Yeah, I'm not excited at the potential cost of acquiring Ferland. We're winning without him, so it'd likely be a good draft pick that we would offer up, perhaps with another prospect in the mix. No roster player likely gets traded.
The looming bidding war will drive up his price anyways.

Hurricanes would want more than just the 31st over-all pick.

I don't think Carolina trades Ferland back here just for the optics alone, but if they did the price would almost certainly be higher than what other teams would have to pay, meaning starting with a 1st rounder. I'm only interested if Ferland wants to come back on a cap friendly UFA deal, which even sounds silly just typing it out

Glad he's doing so well and getting some recognition across the league! I don't see us landing him though. I could see Pittsburgh (rental), then maybe the flyers?

It will be interesting to see what Ferland gets traded for. It is a buyer's market, so even with a lot of teams expressing interest, there are a lot of other players moving around as well. I am not expecting Treliving to reacquire Ferland, but I would love it if it happened, as long as the cost wasn't too prohibitive. Ferland is the exact type of player that you want to acquire heading into the playoffs - good 200ft game that won't hurt you, decent scoring, tonnes of grit.
Plus, Evander Kane can STFU and not make any stupid remarks about the Flames suddenly getting taller out there when he went out of the lineup. LoL

He said in the same season. And regardless I think Conroy was a free agent to LA

I would welcome Ferland back as a rental. You could plug him in on any line in a pinch IMO. Has chemistry with our top line, if we need to shake it up in a playoff series or if there are injuries.

I can't see it. The Canes are going to want a 1st and Conroy has already said they would only deal that for a guy with term. I think other teams are in a better position to offer more than we are.

Ferland going to the Canucks, and the Flames matching up with them in the 1st round is a very real possibility that I'm sure nobody wants to see happen.
It would feel so wrong.

Not a chance; I like Ferland a lot but he's definitely not worth that.
I think you try to carve out a deal around Frolik, given that they both play the right wing and Frolik's agent seems to be frustrated with his client's lack of playing time. You can couple Frolik with Stone (especially once Valimaki is back) and that's about as much as I'm willing to pay for a Ferland rental.
Man, the possibilities are fun, though. To get through a team like Winnipeg in the playoffs you need to be able to combine skill/speed with physicality. Throwing Tkachuk/Bennett/Ferland/Neal/Backlund/Hathaway at someone in a playoff series makes for one frustrating series.

I would love to see Ferland back in time for the playoffs. He would probably be the single best addition the Flames could make as a deadline trade both for on ice performance and for fan entertainment.

Yup, that'll work.

In a non cap world sure. Also do you really want to trade any assets at all that would land him to play minimal minutes on our fourth line?
