He is a goal scoring machine with and without Gaudreu on his wing—we have all seen this in the few times it has happened. But perhaps more to the point, the discussion about Gaudreau's dependency on Monahan is something that does not occur often enough: Last year when Monahan was shut down Gaudreau's production fell off a cliff. It literally plummeted.

The point is not that one player is miles better than the other. The point is that both Monahan and Gaudreau are great players—both in their own right. Both are fortunate to have one another, because of how much they both help each other.

In short, if Monahan does score 40 goals it will be because he is one of the best goal scorers in the entire NHL. Full stop.
I’m a huge fan of Sean’s, but when in the pros has he not had Gaudreau on his wing? Rookie season? I don’t recall his line, in 13/14.

Hudler and Colborne I believe.

Rookie season, plus when Johnnie's hand was broke. In his rookie year he played with lots of people - Sven, Hudler were the most common, but also Colborne, Glencross, Cammalleri, Galiardi, Bouma.

There have been spells of games in 2015–16 and 2016–17 which Gaudreau missed to injury, and Monahan barely missed a beat. But I should like to also remind everyone that through the final six games of the season last year with Monahan on the shelf Gaudreau scored 2 points—both of them in Game #82 in a game against VGK, who were already prepping for a home-start in the playoffs.

Nice try but ultimately...

Sean Monahan singlehandedly turned an undersize scrub in Gaudreau into an 84 point player.

Monahan is quite possibly the worst defensive player on the team. It's tough for him to focus on the puck when he's struggling against his own two legs with every stride he takes.

Iginla was clearly better defensively

I love Monahan. He's a great player, who's limitations wouldn't be as magnified if he could play a more appropriate role for his skillset (aka: An elite 2C or a #1LW)

You are going out of the way to express your dislike for him wherever possible
If that’s love it’s a weird version of it

Monahan made at least 4 notable defensive plays last night, yet his defensive game is the worst on the team?? Lol. Also iggy in his last 6~ seasons was a terrible floater. Love the guy but there is some revisionism going on there!

Oh man, your post makes me think of so many 80's/90's songs. Whitesnake, Survivor...

I think it's due to the mob mentality on this site, where if you think differently, you're crucified and given weird labels. It makes me want to express my opinion that much more.

Posters try to bully you into silence and/or bans if you don't comply with their groupthink and I think it's extremely childish and defeats the purpose of being on a forum.

If that's your love, I don't want to see your hate.
