I am not going to get worked up about lines in September. But if they start the season with Bennett - Jankowski - Hathaway as the 4th line, I will not be impressed. There are so many great combos that can be made from this lineup, but that is one that we already know does not work.

Yeah, the point of acquiring all this depth was to push players like Hathaway right off the roster to 13th/14th forward spot duty. I think they are realistically just putting him there as a placeholder much like Peluso and eyeing the performance of newcomers or pushing youngsters for that spot.

Id rather see something like this if it turns out that Czarnik has such good chemistry with Tkachuk and Backlund that you just cant move him off that line. Although I would rather see any of Dube/Foo/Mangiapane play a regular shift over the Hathaway/Lazar group.

Bennett - Janko - Lindholm
Frolik - Ryan - Hathaway

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Neal
Dube - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Ryan - Czarnik

1 first line and 3 second lines

you could also switch Neal and Czarnik there

Switch Dube and Bennett and those are the exact lines I came up with.

If they're going to stick lindholm on the third line I hope they play him in the same vein as Kadri in Toronto.

Tkachuk - Backlund - Czarnik worked so well yesterday, you have blown it up to put them on 3 separate lines.

What a blender!

lol, jankowski second line centre.

The flames didnt spend 9 million on centres in the last 6 months to play them 10-14 minutes a night.

just as likely the point of acquiring all this depth was to push janko and bennett onto the fourth line.

I think it's important to keep things in perspective too though. One preseason game against a bad Canuck's game resulted in three goals for that lines right wing ...

1) on a powerplay
2) on a great chemistry play with Tkachuk
3) a fluke goal set up primarily by a defenseman

This isn't Trottier Gillies and Bossy at this point.

Other then Gaudrea, monahan, neal and tkachuk no forward has shown in last few years to be consistenly a top 6 offensive forward. You csn argue Backlund might be part of that group. So that leaves 1-2 spots where hopefully chemistry develops or thr forwards competing thst night will be circled through the lineup.

Fair, but based on the preseason, plus the Backlund contract, it looks like Peters is really inclined to keep Backlund and Tkachuk together on line 2, wouldn’t you say?
