My wife is properly addicted to Tetris 99 now. I will say that the d-pad on the pro controller is probably the only negative thing about that accessory, and Tetris really shows it. The separate d-pad buttons of the joycons are much, much better for Tetris.
I guess the revision 2 pro controller (SSB style, iirc) is better, but yeah. This is basically the only game so far where the joycons are clearly superior to the pro controller.

Oh dear. Now I'm going to have to obsess and try and determine whether my d-pad is faulty, functional but annoying, or perfectly fine. I didn't entertain the idea of there actually being a real hardware issue with it. I just assumed it was just an annoyance and poor design.
Truthfully, I use the d-pad a lot less than my wife. She even prefers it for steering on Mario Kart. I mean - who does that? Weirdo. The analog stick is so much better for that. I let you use the pro controller because I'm a gentleman and you go and use the d-pad on it to steer?
The original controllers are just bad for dropping pieces accidentally due to the lack of a proper D pad. That's why the joycons are better for this one.
Got a second win today. Both times, I was fortunate enough to KO someone with enough kills to push me up to four badges.
I have stolen my kids Nintendo Switch to play Tetris 99 ... lol
Best finish was 7th. Sometimes it can be frustrating when you are sitting near the bottom and all of a sudden three people are attacking you and you are near the top.
I agree that tetrises and triples at the start but to just clear the board as quickly as possible as it gets to a lower number is better.

I've managed to hit second place twice. They're just dropping so fast at that point it's hard to put anything meaningful together.
Man it’s weird that, between this and Link’s Awakening, it basically signifies Nintendo moving all their development teams to just the one dedicated platform. 3DS might be the last dedicated handheld system ever.
Tetris 99 event this weekend. The top 999 players win 999 Nintendo points (basically, a us$10 eShop credit). So far today, I've been doing my usual: 3 second place finishes, a third, a fourth and a ninth. I may never get my third win.
