Ron Maclean - just stop with:

1) the puns
2) I'm a referee
3) hockey is a "religion" in Canada
4) I'm the most Canadian person that ever lived
5) name drops

I actually like Ron MacLean, but the ref stuff is just ridiculous. You can take the most egregious missed call or horribly officiated game and he just comes on fired up ready to chastise the entire nation for daring to question the hardest working, best professionals on planet earth!

This is the thing that bugs me the most about Cherry. Does the guy even watch hockey anymore? Every defenceman will put there stick in the way to interfere with or deflect a shot. The benefits of preventing direct shots on net far outweigh the occasional fluke deflection.

Strombo was pretty good I thought and I guess he sort of got screwed over by Maclean behind the scenes?

Hometown hockey is my least favorite part about watching Flames games nowadays. I’d seriously rather watch a panel with my least favorite analysts at least talk NHL than hear anything to do with lower level hockey. It doesn’t “bring us all together”, it’s just very uninteresting

You would think he is heavy into drugs by the way he looks but apparently he is straight edge and vegan.

Ron MacLean Leno`d Strombo big time.

MacLean is everything I hate about watching hockey in Canada.

I remember listening to the press conference introducing Strombo as the new HNIC host. Maclean kept making passive-aggressive comments towards Strombo. "Don't screw this up" he kept saying. You could tell he was not happy.

I think Maclean is great precisely because of his ego and knowledge of the game. There are way too many commentators who are afraid to be critical of the NHL and they bore me. Watching Maclean square off with smug little bettman is awesome viewing. Nobody else could pull that off.

Likewise with scott oake. Well prepared and thorough in his research. His interviews have some substance. Players don’t cringe when they take questions from him. Unlike most of the other interviewers.

Oh my god. Seriously? I love watching MacLean and Bettman square off for exactly the opposite reason—to watch MacLean get his ass handed to him.

It's well documented that he has someone run his Twitter account for him - I'm sure they're translating/cleaning up a lot.

I am 36 and am not crusty yet and I thought Stombo was the absolute wrong choice.

David Amber is awesome. He is the future host.

Totally agree, but I suspect Maclean walks away from each and every interview thinking "nailed it".

I liked Strombo -intelligent and lets the "experts" or interviewee get his/her point across, but for HNIC, I think David Amber is better - as a moderator, he doesn't inject too much of his own opinion into the discussion.
