The Oilers would win that trade. Brodie and RNH are close to equivalent value IMO, with the edge going to RNH. Janko has more value than Puljujarvi, so I think that makes the trade fairly even... maybe we throw in a late pick or something.
If you replace Janko with Bennett it becomes pretty lopsided in favour of the Oilers... In any case, I don't see this trade happening... Trading with a division rival especially the Oilers just makes me feel dirty.

Flames would come out with less cap. They could consider trading Hamonic to the Jets for Roslivic +2nd
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Nuge-Roslivic
Mangipane-Backlund-Frolik (maybe trade him for a lesser cap hit bottom 6 winger)
Dube-Jankowski-Ryan
Gio-Hanifin
Valimaki-Andersson
Kylington-Russell
Stone
Rittich
Talbot

I’m not going to be a fan of anything coming out of the biggest dumpster fire in professional sports. Trading with Edmonton is always a risk.
All we can do is have faith that, in the event this isn’t just something the No Good media dreamt up to keep people interested over the dog days of summer, it could turn out like Hall, Dubnyk, or Schultz. Sometimes the stink can wear off.

Nugent-Hopkins>Brodie
Russell>>>Neal, at least until Neal shows he is capable of bouncing back to earn some of his contract
Puljujarvi<Bennett but Puljujarvi still has greater 'potential'
Pretty easy win for the Flames in my opinion.

I think you are over-rating Russell. He is really not very good—worse than Mike Stone, and more expensive.

Russell sucks. I'm not overrating him. I'd bring him in maybe to clean up the lockerroom but honestly wouldn't even want the chance of his crappiness rubbing off on the young defenders.
Still the 6.5M left on his contract is exponentially greater than 23M left on Neal's - if Neal continues to play like he did.

Russell isn't very good, but would love to see the stats pointing to being worse than Stone.

Thing is, if they send us RNH, they'll want a center or guy that can play it back, along with Brodie/Stone, who they're probably looking at for their back end. Holland has a few brain cells.
So that means Bennett/Janko/Dube may need to be included in the flames' package.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of acquiring RNH. He would be a good second line center after missing out on Kadri.
Tough to imagine what that deal would look like though. I could see any of the following being involved if RNH was actually being discussed:
Brodie
Bennett
Jankowski
Neal
Stone
Frolik
Kylington
Lucic
RNH
Benning
Russell
Puljujarvi
Maybe something like Neal, Brodie, Bennett for RNH, Lucic, Puljujarvi?
Neal > Lucic
Bennett > Puljujarvi
Brodie < RNH

Russell is one of the worst possession players in the entire league. He has pretty much only been useful for blocking lots of shots. Stone isn’t a perfect player either but he does have valuable attributes and isn’t a virtual lock to cough up possession any time he’s got the puck on his stick.
No desire to see Russell or that contract on the Flames, and severely doubtful he even cracks the top 6.

RNH has 2 years to UFA, Brodie one. That makes a huge difference. Plus he's a defensively responsible forward who scored 69 points last year.
His value is quite a bit more than Brodie's, and I doubt he's even available in any trade.

Norm!

Russell causes most of his shot blocking requirements. From his give aways to his weak board play. He has to dive head first at pucks because his play leads to shots.
I give him credit for being gutsy and accountable, but he's just a bad blueliner

Yeah a lot of this is just so gross. I really don't want to touch anything with Lucic or Russell in it... but I don't see why they would give us Nuge (the only tradeable piece on their roster that I would take a crack at) without helping them out somehow.

Stone has been worse over the last three years in terms of possession.

He also has a positive penalty differential where Stone has a negative one. His point production rate is also higher than Stone over that span.
I don't want Russell back but let's call a spade a spade. Stone is not more effective than Russell once you put away the size goggles.

Ok, but Stone had worse possession stats his last full season than Russell.
I mean I don't think Russell or Stone are good NHL defenceman but I am curious if Textcritic had anything to back up his claim.

Outside of "McDrai" there is no way to win a trade with Edmonton. Everyone needs to stop talking about it....right now!

To see Staples comment on the Bennett tweet by Staufer with Lucic+Puljujarvi for Neal and Bennett made me want to puke. Horrendously bad deal for Calgary.

Lucic is so bad with such a bad contract and needs protection from the expansion draft.
His value is so much worse than Neal's, which is not easy to imagine.
I wouldn't trade Neal for Lucic and a 1st round pick.

Firmly disagree, Nuge could still be a huge win for us, as long as we are only giving up Brodie with a small add.
Otherwise though, let's stay far the F away. Lol at staples suggestion... I wouldn't even do that if the oilers included their next two 1sts.

That’s a horrific trade for Calgary, who gets the short end of the stick on both pieces. No surprise it came from Staples.
