Default 2023/2024 English Premier League Thread

Time to update the thread... championship starts this weekend!

Since my team isn't in it, I basically just watch with a broad view. Most excited to see how Burnley do after being re-invented last year under Kompany, what a season they had. I enjoyed watching Brighton and Newcastle last year and it would be awesome if either could improve this year and maybe finish top 5. Also wondering if Everton stay up this year, they should, but they've been headed down hill the last few seasons. For some reason I just want to see a club their size go down. Should be an interesting year as always!

There are a few teams I'm curious about, and how they fare coming off a weird 2022/23 season. This year should be more normal, in terms of the schedule, and that might the first time in 2/3 years.

Up The Villa! Very optimistic for this season, it’s only been two friendlies but Diaby is fitting in so well, all the new signings are looking great so far, looking forward to see what they do with 4 CD who all deserve to start, good problem to have

Brazil midfielder Fabinho has joined Al-Ittihad from Liverpool on a three-year deal, the Saudi club announced on Monday.

Financial details were not disclosed, but British media reported the Saudi Pro League champions paid £40 million ($51.33 million) for the 29-year-old.

What. The. Hell.

He was still good!

Looks like Gvardiol to City is all but done for €90m. In Euros, he will be the most expensive CB of all time (and RB Leipzig will obviously claim this) - but because of different exchange rates, he will not be the most expensive one in Pounds (and City will obviously claim this).

Gross. Nevez is another player that shouldn't be over there.

No thanks on the Newcastle one.
We don't need another oil state team with unlimited funds taking over the league.
Respect to Brighton though; quality club and love how they played last season.

Also seems like the bayern meeting went well, because out of it suddenly a bunch of incoming deals seem to be close

Tabsopa bid for 45m

Lots of south american journos say we are close to signing alejo Veliz for 15m, only 19. Never seen him play, but Messi says he reminds him of suarez and is the future or argentina. I watched a video on youtube and now think hes the greatest player who ever existed

Also van de wen personal details are done per romano, says deal should be finalized in few days

Orban gift and brennan johnson being looked at too, would take either, gift probly more upside and cheaper, but Johnson could step in now and play a lot

He's like a new signing!

Hopefully we sell Kane to Bayern and have first right of refusal for the PL in a few years. It's probably for the best at this point, and in the meantime maybe some of these deals workout. I was still hoping for Jonathan David, but I'm a little surprised we have a shot at Gift.

Chelsea sign Roberto Sanchez für £25m. They are also still negotiating for Moises Caicedo.

Doesn't seem like they'll actually balance their books this summer. Right now, they have a plus of ~£100m, but that's without Sanchez and Caicedo himself would cost a fortune too. They'll surely get rid of Lukaku, but they'd probably replace him with another stiker then.

I want a bissouma/lo celso/maddison midfield for our first game

Veliz confirmed by Romano here we go, sounds like he may stay with them till december and then come over, but that's not confirmed

By pretty much every metric last year Raya was better. Mostly confusing because they just gave Ramsdale a wage bump, but maybe they figured Raya was going elsewhere and now that he's available they are jumping on that. On the other side, Chelsea going for Sanchez is bizarre because by almost every metric last year Kepa was equal or better than him. Why Chelsea aren't going for Raya if they want an upgrade is odd.

I don't think we do just a nice PR story so our fans can get hyped up about, pretend that we tried to get him and then make up excuses about how it is hard to buy players when we are fighting Fulham and Crystal Palace for 12th next season.

speaking of Ramsdale, his recent article for the Players Tribune is fantastic. Various topics in there, including internet trolls, homophobia and his wife's miscarriage.
