The defense coverage has been sluggish. If we cannot outscore the opposition the best case scenario is getting one point.
maybe the first period was different...
from what i was able to watch, i didn't see that... seemed pretty even, though Reimer made some big saves... calgary wasn't able to capitalize on the PP chances they had.
the second line is definitely having some issues... Gaudreau had a lot of chances it seemed like...
for all their struggles, Calgary is tied with SJ and Wpg with the same number of games remaining.
this slump won't last... if it does going into the trade deadline, i expect BT to make a biggish move...not for the top guys, but more likely Nyquist, Johansson or Dzingle...darkhorses for me would be Burakovsky or Johasson (TO)

I feel like being bad at shootouts is a staple of good teams btw. Swear the Kings sucked at them in their contending years, Bruins have sucked at them over their years of contending.
Oilers seem to dominate shootouts OTOH over the years of 1st overall draft picks.
Because he is a talented goal scorer and Peters believes in him and shootouts are garbage anyways.
Didn’t take long to go from concern that a trade will mess with team chemistry to we should make a trade to add a needed piece, to maybe we aren’t nearly as close as we think so no point in mortgaging the future.
I'm kind of starting to worry again that Gaudreau is the only guy on the team who can actually generate offensive chances.
Bennett took that one puck to the net, Tkachuk and Frolik had the 2 on 1, and Tkachuk stripped Pysyk to feed Backlund were the only 3 decent chances the Flames had 5v5 that I remember.
I didn't catch the first but the Flames really didn't generate anything until the 3rd.
Although Florida only generated one chance and scored on it, just the way it goes I guess.

- Another game with a tonne of Flames shots, not a lot of quality but that will come next.
- Mike Smith was solid. He was really good.
- Janko produced 5 on 5. He's largely been quiet even strength while dangers shorthanded.
- Top line scored even strength as well, not just on the PP.
- Loved the assists by Hanifin and Andersson.
This was a game we'd easily win in January. Gio or Tkachuk would have scored in OT on their rushes, on Backlund in tight in the 3rd when Tkachuk set him up in the slot.
