From what I gather Flames 214th pick G Dustin Wolf (USA) is our only prospect that made a World Junior Championship team this year.

So as we do best when Flames aren’t playing we can pick apart the No Goodness that is Oiler prospects:
Sweden - D Philip Broberg - Drafted #8 by Oilers 2019
Canada - G Olivier Rodrigue - Drafted #62 by Oilers 2018
Canada - F Raphael Lavoie - Drafted #38 by Oilers 2019
Czech Republic - F - Matej Blumel - Drafted #100 by Oilers 2019

Spencer Knight, returning from last year. Florida's 13th OA pick in 2019.

Watching the Czech/Russian game and particularly the Russian G who is supposed to be the next great thing as far as tenders go.

Really underwhelming at best. His positioning is really poor and has a very vulnerable glove side high spot.

That being said, the teams are tied at 3 as the Czechs simply cant protect a lead. Also, the undrafted Hitmen defenseman on the Russian squad has 2 of their goals.

Is anyone using the IIHF app and find it's not updating?

With Canada, US, Russia, and the Czechs all in one group, the teams that lose today will really be under the gun.

Russia is 4 minutes away from being in real trouble. And the Canada/US game will be HUGE.

Not really though. They lose this game yes, but its likely that they will only need one group win to qualify for the playoffs. Unlikely that Germany beats anyone in this group. Makes it a harder road theoretically but the round play doesnt seem to mean much in this torney.

Oh and that Russian G got yanked after 2 periods. McKenzie or someone was saying he is likely to be a top 5 pick this year. That performance should really give pause because he looked less than average and thats being generous. Likely just a bad game but man...awful positioning the whole time.

If we assume everyone beats Germany, it will take 2 wins to qualify for the playoff round. And they have already lost to the Czechs, meaning the Czechs have the tie-breaker. So if the Czechs beat Germany (safe bet at home), Russia has to pass either the US or Canada.

They are in trouble.

Same thing for the next game. Whoever loses is going to be under pressure.

Wait... I was assuming 3 teams move to the medal round from each group. Is it 4? If it's 4, then no worries.

I thought 4 teams from each group make the playoffs...no?

So if Germany loses all 4 games...Russia would finish 4th (worst case) and play the winner of the other group.

Or do only 3 teams make it from each side? LOL..i actually forget now.

Just looked...it is 4 per side that go through...so yeah...1 loss is nothing. Lose 2 though and it could get dicey.

They just said on TSN that 4 teams move on. So never mind.

I don't like 4 teams advancing from a group of 5. There is no risk of failure.

Sweden could win group A and get the Russians in the quarterfinals

3 losses for Russia wouldn’t even be bad, as long as they beat Germany and the Czechs also do.

Good for Czechs to atart strong, always good when the home team goes far.

I think they said earlier that Sweden has won 48 straight group games in this tournament. 12 years worth.

They have ONE gold medal during that time.

Yup, they've made group play all but meaningless. It's too bad
