Icon60 Breaking: NYI trade Couturier to TB

Nothing like a late-night trade.

More to come

TB Lightning were not sure if they were going to be involved in any big names moving around, but once Couturier became available, they definitely made a move.

Fabbri has been discussed between the two teams previously as well, and was considered as part of a bigger deal when the teams swapped Tuch and Mangiapane. Francouz is going to be a cap dump. Since he hasn’t played a game this year, he probably gets hit in the re-rates, but it allowed TB Lightning to hold on to a few prospects that were in discussion. There is also a chance of a rebound and some value beyond next year.

Thanks to Scorp for the talks!

The teams still didn’t find a way to figure out a method to resolve the conditions in previous trades though.

Yup NYI still owe TB a 2021 3rd and a top-90 pick in 2021. Will be interesting to see how this is resolved...

Why? You're that excited to pick 28th?

My justification:

Francouz is a cap dump. I don't think Maroon has much value.

Carrier is a rookie D playing over 20 a night in Nashville.

I think Ruzicka is gonna be a legit stud in Calgary.

Fabbri is a top six winger.

I think Tampa's pick could be Bedard (no offense).

Offense very much taken! Lightning are going to very much be competing by then. At least I very much hope so.

But yeah, I think it is a fair deal. Carrier has already had a decent showing so far as a rookie, and predators are pretty good at churning out great defensemen. Fabbri is getting good opportunity in Detroit. Ruzicka gets the flames prospect bump in value.

In addition to that the 4.25 million in potential dead cap space next year (and maybe beyond).

With today's trade with Columbus in the books, this deal now looks something like this...

Couturier
Atkinson
Francouz
Maroon
Francis

for

Kadri
Campbell
Fabbri
Ruzicka
2023 1st (TB)

Call me crazy... but I think that's pretty solid value on both sides. Especially given Kadri is locked up for next year at 3.5, Campbell at 2.5, Fabbri at 2.75, Ruzicka at 0.5.

Atkinson makes 8. Francouz makes 4.25. Couturier is an RFA who will need a three-year deal.
