Mariners have been a dark horse all year though and beat the Jays in a series quite handily. Could be an upset by Seattle.

This is the best WC series. And an ALDS showdown between Astros and Jays would be epic. For me at least.

That series got Montoyo fired so it's really irrelevant now.

Anybody can win a series. Both teams aren’t the same as when they played in Seattle. The Blue Jays were on a big slump and days later Montoyo finally was fired.

If it were in Seattle, the Jays would be in very tough. But being in Toronto gives them the advantage, IMO

I know both teams' home and away records are similar, but I still think it's the difference in the series

Now that the team is in the play-offs I just want to take a moment to say how important and season-saving Ross Stripling was. We know how good Alek was. We knew Gausman was going to be what he was. With Ryu going down, Berrios falling all the way off the cliff and Kikuchi doing Kikuchi things in the Kikuchiest way he can; if Ross didn't become a top thirty starter in the league this team would have been in a world of hurt.

I don't know if he will repeat it, and I know a team will offer him a silly contract the same way it happened with Steven Matz, but this season he was low key the team's most important player.

I’ll take Jays in 3 but really it’s a coin flip. Two similar teams in such a small sample. That’s what makes it so nerve wracking. 162 game season decided in a blip

Roster for the series has to be trimmed to 26 players with an equal amount of pitchers and position players.

My guess;

1. Springer
2. Guerrero
3. Bichette
4. Hernandez
5. Kirk
6. Jansen
7. Merrifield
8. Espinal (or Gurriel, both have been injured. Not sure who’ll be ready)
9. Bradley Jr
10. Tapia
11. Biggio
12. Chapman
13. Moreno (or Zimmer, this one will be a tough call. Zimmer probably makes it if both Gurriel and Espinal are a no go)

1. Manoah
2. Gausman
3. Stripling
4. Berrios
5. Romano
6. Richards
7. Pop
8. Bass
9. Garcia
10. Phelps
11. Mayza
12. Cimber
13. Kikuchi

Edit: I could be mistaken that there has to be equal amount of players and pitchers. I am seeing conflicting things, so TBD on that. Can anyone clarify?

Does the best lineup include both Kirk (DH) and Jansen? Or does Jansen sit out in place of someone else as DH?

Based on their WRC this season, both bats are an absolute must in the lineup.

And Kirk likely catches game 1 as he has been Manoah’s catcher all season

Yeah for that reason I would put Moreno in. One of Jansen or Kirk is likely DH or possible pinch hitter. So I would have Moreno in over Zimmer as you hate to lose your DH if your catcher got injured. To me JBJ eliminates any use for Zimmer. I think I'd pick Otto Lopez over Zimmer...

Mariners with a minor loss, a bench power bat just hit the IL with a neck strain. Jesse Winker will not be available to face us.

He has decent HR power and walks a fair amount. Kind of like Biggio with more power, but less versatile.

Winker was a pretty regular player until Haniger came back. He is a guy who walks a lot, and has power. Probably puts Kelinic in line for a spot. He's got power but more of a two outcome hitter than Winker who's a three.

Moreno has to be in over Zimmer. Zimmer is an automatic out. Moreno has loads of potential, and probably has less scouting reports on to do some damage if brought in to PH. If they choose Zimmer it's a fire-able offense as far as I'm concerned.

I wonder, if Espinal can’t go…if they don’t pick Otto Lopez over Zimmer.

OF depth you have Springer, Teo, Tapia, JBJ, and Merrifield. That’s plenty for 3 games.

IF depth you have Merrifield who can cover 2B. Biggio can play everywhere although nowhere particularly well.

Lopez may get the spot. That would be something. All theoretical and only if Espinal isn’t ready of course

Anthony Bass tweeted this out just a few mins ago. He wasn’t even on the Jays yet when this happened, so clearly the players have talked about it and haven’t forgot. Nothing like a little extra motivation

If enough people see that Sewald is going to be Public Enemy No. 1 and get booed hard. Hopefully the favor gets returned and he gets trolled hard on social media.
