How long it took me to learn tin snips were directional. “Man I hate these things! They mangle half my cuts?!”. Yeah, ‘cause you’re trying to cut left with right snips, moron.
I've been helping an older new grad with a job hunt for months now, and I'm just burned out.
The guy is so ####ing arrogant, does nothing I recommend, has zero confidence, refuses to pick up a phone and talk to people (and yet can't put a "got it" into a text instead of a phoning me.)
Yesterday I came to the realization that I'm done. After I suggested he reach out to so-and-so for some simple guidance or advice, he went off on a misogynistic tirade about how she only got the job cause she's a woman and "checks a box," and alluded to the fact that her 25-year career is irrelevant cause she doesn't have a P.Eng designation. It took me a few seconds to pick my jaw up off the floor.
Dude's gonna be in his 50s in no time, unemployable, chasing a handful of goddamn letters.

If you care about him, tell him the unvarnished truth. Then tell him you'll help in 6 months when he's still unemployed if he's willing to listen to your advice.
If you don't care about him, cut bait before he uses you as a reference.

Well...bye. Not worth it. Plus you risk tarnishing your reputation vouching for this guy, who's obviously going to be a toxic employee.

Wow a jerk engineer. Never met any of those before.

Another example where education does not equal intelligence, cut him loose before he burns you.

I can think of a handful of guys who that sounds like.
People who intentionally sit in the wrong seat on an airplane should just be removed from the airplane or have their bags moved all the way to the back overhead bin.

Wish I lived in a 15 minute city. Wanna make some easy crap Meal but always missing an ingredient i feel is important.
Tuna salad sandwiches….no celery, the only place celery is good. Need the crunch.
Kraft dinner, no butter. Can’t go bareback no butter.
Weiners and beans. Got the weiners, no beans. Certainly wouldn’t want to stock something in the house that never goes bad and costs next to nothing.
But holy schat we have four thousand packages of gluten free spelt cracker varieties that seem to arrive everyday and no one likes including the purchaser. Oh and we got hummus for days. What spread is a flavour sink for anything it touches? Hummous.

Explain. The purchaser is buying things they don't like...daily?!?
That uneasy feeling when driving a brand new vehicle in morning rush hour traffic.
Hope it goes away soon...probably after I get my first ding / scuff etc...
Good luck to you. The first windshield crack is coming and there's nothing you can do about it so don't fret. Just drive defensively for the first while until you become more familiar with how the new vehicle drives.

I had a similar albeit almost opposite experience helping my intern get a Corporate jobs last year.
New Grad looking to Article...the kid just POUNDED the pavement.
He went to every job event, every meeting, countless interviews, seminars, job fairs, everything and it still took him nearly a year to get hired.
And thats not even delving into recommendation letters, resume writing, glowing references, online reviews and all kinds of other BS corporate crap I got dragged though.
Yeah. Me. The guy not applying for your job. I had to do so much on his behalf as his 'soon-to-be former employer.'
It was ridiculous.
It is goddamned brutal trying to get a Professional job right now, but the moral of the story is....the guy pounding the pavement vs. the guy whining about it...the one who puts in the work gets the job.
