I think the team has had good centers....the problem is that it's been nearly 30 years since it last had a true top line impact guy. Monahan is the closest thing but he is a good finisher and better at passing than he gets credit for. But he is a second tier guy at best.

Boy....i disagree completely with that and I am a huge Gilmour fan.
Joe Who was the most complete C this club has ever employed, though its close, but he did it for so much longer in Calgary than killer did.

While Joe's line was #1, Gilmour was more complete. Facing top lines, and scoring like a #1. Further exemplified, was that Joe wasn't the best center on his other 2 Cup winning teams.

Well, he got my vote. Got to see him live and marveled what he could do with the puck. On pure talent alone he was by far our best.

Which Savard is on this draft board? The guy that had not reached his potential with the flames or the guy who flourished in Boston?

I don't disagree with you- in 89 Gilmour was I think clearly the better player on the better (more important) line
but regarding the other 2 points, to Nieuwendyk's credit at least he won those 2 other cups. in Dallas (a bit like Calgary) he was in a 1a/1b situation with the younger also HOFer Modano and he did win the Smythe trophy...by the time he was in Jersey he was what? 35 years old?

He’s going to be my 4th line center. Him playing with Tanguay and Loob will go down as the greatest 4th line ever!!!

Joe was a force . In the playoffs he was a sure bet.
Not just in Calgary either.
Watching him Robert's and Loob was awesome.
That line with Suter and Chopper on the points was deadly. I fondly remember that line. I remember watching them dominate so many times and watching Loob change to a north American style and not take any crap because his linemates wouldn't stand for it.
Neiwy was quoted as saying you'd have to cut my legs off before ill stop standing in front of the net.
Top center and Killer being on the same team.....lights out.

Went with Joe for length of stay, Gilmour will surely be 2nd.
I'd like to see Otto on the 4th line, scoring isn't everything. He shut down the other teams top guys and didn't back down from anybody while still putting up respectable numbers. Someone has to make defensive zone starts and kill penalties.

Or overrated. The problem with Kent Nilsson was that he was truly talented. However, he never panned out for the Flames or the North Stars until he went to the Oilers playing with superstars. He never really showed up for the Flames when it counted. Maybe being dubbed as the Magic Man, he made himself disappear and appear as necessary.

Essentially 3 100 pt seasons. Would easily have had a 4th but for a gruesome broken ankle.
29 playoff games 28 pts.
He was the most offensively blessed player in the history of the team.
Yes he was inconsistent at times with his defensive play, but he most certainly panned out just fine in his Calgary days.

When you consider this team was looking for a number one centre for almost 20 years after he left, it has to be Nieuwendyk.

Are we looking at this as the four best, like if we were building an all-star team? Or the four best in terms of role?
I like Monahan, but if we are protecting a lead late in the game and want to put a center out there to try and pin the players in their zone, block shots, and wear down the opponent, I would prefer to have Otto, Conroy, or even Yelle on the ice.

Day to Day
We elect a position, say 2nd line RW, remove that name and do the 3rd line RW the next day.
I'll post a summary as we go along.
Calgary Flames All Time Roster
Gary Roberts - C1 - RW1
Johnny Gaudreau - C2 - RW2
Matthew Tkachuk - C3 - RW3
Alex Tanguay - C4 - RW4
D1 - D2
D3 - D4
D5 - D6
Miikka Kiprusoff
Mike Vernon

I would've had a different player in the 4C spot than Monahan if we were picking who would be the best fit in the position, but we are choosing by the best player. So, that's why my vote with the 4C, assuming Monahan is still there, will be Monahan.
