With the huge exception of Heiskanen now, Dallas has always seemed to have some pretty terrible first rounders over the last 20 years:

Harley, Dellandrea, Heiskanen, Tufte, Gurianov, Honka, Nichushkin, Dickinson, Faksa, Oleksiak, Campbell, Glennie, Vishnevskiy, Niskanen, Fistric, Vagner, Bacashihua

Jury is still out on the newest crop, but that's a very mediocre group.

It's been better lately. Gurianov had 20 goals this year and Nichushkin is turning into a really good two-way forward in Colorado.

I don't think he should count. He didn't work out for Dallas, they literally got nothing for him. Iginla would count as a homerun-and-then-some pick because even though he never played for them he was traded for a Conn Smythe winner. Nichushkin is nothing but regret for Dallas.

3rd round - Lidstrom - 1500+ games, 1100+ points

5th round - Bure - 700+ games, 700+ points
6th round - Drake - 1000+ games, 400+ points
Bure? What am I missing?

They inquired about drafting him in the fifth round but were told he was ineligible to be drafted as he hadn't played enough games.

Then Vancouver drafted him in the sixth round because they showed proof of two additional games that he played that the league didn't know about.

Depending on how things turn out, 2015 might be one of our strongest relative to draft position. No picks in the first 50, no 4th rounder, and the Kylington pick is practically a 3rd, but we came out with 3 NHLers, and the way they're trending, maybe a couple impact players.
