From a different article two days ago about the epic 2004 series against Vancouver:
Chris Clark: Iggy was our leader, our best player, arguably the best player in the league at that time. He was one of the best grinding forwards in the league. Following his lead, no one could back down or hide. Matt Cooke: You use the term in junior hockey a lot, but he was a man against boys. Jarome was so skilled, so physical. When he played, and especially in the early 2000s, mid-2000s, he was just a dominant power forward. He fought, he scored, made pretty shots, blocked shots. There wasn’t anything he didn’t do. That whole playoff run he was lights out. Alex Auld: He was pulling off stuff that you don’t normally see, especially the one goal in Game 7.
That point shot comes through and he puts his stick out. Everything about it reads tip. He just stops it and pulls it around me. I watched it again and even all these years later, it’s like, “Who does that?”

I always wished for Iggy to get crushed in the first five minutes of every game, because he'd utterly dominate for the remaining 55 minutes.
Same here. I always remember yelling at my TV " someone fight Jarome Iginla. Common, see what happens!".
I remember Mactavish being interviewed after a BoA and he said how he'd tell his players to just leave Jarome alone as part of the gameplan. Don't get him all riled up, otherwise he'll win the Flames the game.
There were many a coaches corner where Cherry said the same thing; poke the sleeping bear and suddenly you have to deal with him in a nasty fashion.
Whenever Iggy's helmet got popped off, I just knew in my heart the Flames would usually win the game.

Would love to see "bull" Iggy knock around those two idiots up north. Prime Iginla was in another physical class from these kids now. They'd be whining all night long over being physically dominated.
This is why I just had a little laugh when less informed commentators kept saying Steve Ott(or a select few other unwise players) played Iginla well because he was in his face. Yeah he played Iggy perfectly if you're a Flames fan. "Lets go start poking that giant sleeping bear that could dismantle our entire roster single-handedly, that'll teach him to sleep!"
That's what also made Iginla so frustrating at times. He could dominate a game or even a playoff series but he also had a tendency to disappear. Obviously, players aren't going to be at their best all the time but there were too many big games where nobody poked the bear and the bear stayed asleep.

I’ve posted this before, but I’ve never understood why Iggy wasn’t in the “Top 100 Players” list that came out when the NHL had its century year. For about 2 years, he was considered by many to be the overall best player in the world. There’s a number of players on that top 100 list that would never have been considered close to the best. Given that the selection was covering the last 100 years, and dividing by 2, maybe you could say he should have made the top 50.

Yes, sire, they must improveth the diction within the fortnight to gain ourst approval! For only thenst shall we enjoyeth the tale of one beloved Jaromeous Ignatheous! No valley women in our midst! Har har!
Okay, I have no idea where you went during this random sabbatical from CP you took, but wherever it is can we send Flash there too so that he can up his drive by game in similar fashion?

Iginla and Malkin! I have gone on this rant before too many times but that is literally insane. But we gotta have Captain Serious Mr. Intangibles John Toews and career ender Scott Stevens on there!

Because the voters were generally guys that played in the 80s or earlier and were prepared to accept that guys they played against or grew up watching were all time greats but not the guys who came after them? No Iggy Malkin or Thornton? Absurd
For a good stretch of the 00s there was probably no one a gm would rather have captaining their team and no better pure powerforward.
And there was probably 15 years where no one could top the playmaking of Thornton. The longevity there was insane.
As was Jarome's ability to put the puck in the net, all the way until his first couple Avalanche seasons.
Even in his farewell tour with the non-playoff Kings being used as a depth forward, he gave the playoff-bound Flames fits, roughed up some players and scored on us. Its actually crazy the chip on his shoulder he had for a guy on the way out.
Both deserve significantly more respect when it comes to all time honors.
