CP 2024 Ordered Draft List (April 9th Edition) #3
Each pick you choose who you would take if you were the Flames GM. Not a mock draft of the standings. Who the Flames would pick at #2 (skipping #1) through say #12 or greater if we see the value.
When done we will have CP consensus list for the Flames.
I'll run a few a day with a cut off around total votes so this doesn't take two weeks to complete.
We can run it weekly to see how things change.
RESULTS:
1. Celebrini (not voted)
2. Demidov

This is where I'd pick Sam Dickinson, I think.

I ended up going with Dickinson too. Earlier I was pretty dead set on the Flames drafting a C, but I've since cooled a bit on Lindstrom and Catton. The Flames should be building up to contender status by locking down a franchise goalie (Wolf), franchise D (????), and franchise C (????).
It's probably a bit unrealistic to expect them to be a playoff team next year unless they change track completely and replace their young guys with some NHL vets (opposite of Conroy's philosophy). So when I really look at it, it probably makes sense to take one of the top D prospects if they are available when the Flames pick and use a high pick next season when the C's are supposed to be a little stronger.

There’s too much hockey still to be played to make this decision I think.
Playoffs and u18s will be key to differentiate this class of players. There’s about 8-10 good options here.

Dickinson has top pairing potential all over him. I’d love to see a Dickinson / Weegar pairing one day.

Dickinson is a well-rounded defender, Parekh is not.

We have 3 well-rounded D. What we don't have is an offensive QB.

Dickinson does everything well. I doubt he plays in the NHL next year (because it would not be best for his development) but seeing him live he already looks like a NHL dman. Hunter B is going to be a player for the Flames (as a comparable) but Dickinson is a much better overall defender already than Hunter (despite Hunter having way better offensive stats). He is a relatively late 06 birthday too (as is Iginla) so one could make the argument he has even more room to grow compared to older guys in the draft.

Really? I think Brzustewicz and Poirier are very much offensive QB prospects. The Flames don't have a guy in their system who projects to be a No. 1 like Dickinson does. There's an outside chance Parekh becomes the next Quinn Hughes — I do like him a lot — but the name I keep hearing in association with Dickinson is Alex Pietrangelo.

Well rounded = play in all situations
You need four of those!
And Weegar is 30, no point in putting him and an 18 year old in direct competition.

Powerplay Quarterback

I'm open to corrections but my understanding is:
Dickinson: most well rounded, might not be a top PP point man but can play any situation
Silayev: defense first, offense may develop but he's playing in the KHL at 17 so limited opportunities to take chances
Parekh: offense is top level, defense is just adequate
Buium: similar to Parekh but US college instead of CHL
Levshunov: US college, similar to Dickinson but maybe a bit more offense
Yakemchuk: pretty well rounded, less offense than Parekh/Buium but better defense

I think most draft rankings have it right, I take Levshunov over Dickinson. Levshunov looks too good in a superior league.

Honestly Yakemchuk is just an adventure. Complete rover who reminds me a lot of Zadorov in terms of how much he likes to rush the puck. I've said for a while that his floor is Zadorov and his ceiling is Dougie Hamilton.

That's fair. I forgot we have Hunter B coming up, so maybe we already have a QB.
I really like that Dickinson is only 17 and is already 6'3 194. I'm just not super familiar with average point totals year over year, etc. Like I know what a point-per-game means for an NHL D, but what does it mean for an OHL D? Of the two I compared, one has 70 in 68, the other has 96 in 66. Are both considered elite numbers, with one just being more elite than the other? Or is 96 considered elite, and 70 just "good/very good"?
Also, I put a lot of stock in playoff performances compared to regular season. Do they elevate in bigger games or do they stay the same? Do they fall off instead?

I mean, no one in their right mind is gonna say no to a Pietrangelo... although, if given the choice, I wonder how many would rather have a Quinn Hughes?
