Default Torts will not return to Columbus

Contract expired, according to the Athletic he’s informed the club he will not be returning.

Perhaps more smoke to Davidson returning and Columbus rebuilding ground up.

Torts to Calgary as an associate coach?

He beat us as coach in 2004 (notwithstanding it was in) so makes sense.

Columbus has definitely had rumored locker room issues as well recently, with certain players clearly wanting out. They probably can go with a scorched earth approach. They did trade away their captain too.

Call me crazy but I like Torts and I think the NHL is a more interesting place when he is coaching somewhere.

He’s definitely a “wears out his welcome” coach, but he’s also really good. Sutter and Torts together would make for some good press conferences.

But he’s a HC - I can’t see him as an AC.

I'm sure Columbus will be real broken up about it too.

He'll get a job somewhere. Guy is a real jackass but he gets results.

Can you imagine Torts fielding jackass questions from Francis?

There are coaches who make a negative difference.

There are coaches who don't move the needle much either way.

I think Tortorella is in that small group of coaches who make teams perform better than a sum of their parts with Quennville, Laviolette, etc

His teams usually overperform IMO. The only exception is Vancouver.

Would get some good responses certainly, but Torts has already dealt with worse, having put up with Larry Brooks for a bunch of years in NY.

I could see Bruce Boudreau being a good fit with Laine

Sometimes it happens. I think Bednar might be in that class of positive difference-maker coach and his first year in Colorado was still a disaster too.

Laine seems like a lazy soft selfish head case loser to me. The kinda guy that won’t win a championship- or if he ever does- it’ll be because of the others and not him. Torts and him is like oil and water.

The only coach to get the BJs to the second round of the playoffs.
