Default How to unlock Bell iPhone4?

I tried to do a search, nothing concrete came up.

Just wondering if there is a way to unlock a Bell iPhone4 so it can be used with Telus, Rogers, Fido etc with one of their sim cards.

Preferably one that doesnt include jailbreaking the phone.

If the answer is go to the Bell store and pay X$ then I am fine with that.

Thank you.

I don't know that Bell will unlock your phone at all. I could be wrong.

There is no software unlock yet for iOS 4.3 phones. If you've updated, you'll need a hardware solution.

If Bell can't/won't unlock it and you've updated to 4.3, you need a sim card hack. They are usually pretty ugly. Sometimes they involve manually cutting your sim card to fit into a bracket. As far as I know they all require pranking 911 on every reboot in order to unlock. No big deal, just a federal offense.

I have seen a jailbreak method which carrier unlocks it but I would prefer the legit method - but alas its like all new technology they probably dont offer a legit method to do something with a product you own.

Did you try using a different search term, like cement?

I had to unlock my 3G and couldn't find anything that didn't require jailbreaking. Seems like that's the only method.

Semi-related question:

I went to the apple store today to get my iPhone 4 replaced under warranty. I originally got the phone from Rogers. Is it magically unlocked now, or does Apple give out Rogers locked ones to their warranty replacements?

I thought all major carriers will do this now for $50. Fully legit and advertised.

Maybe Bell is not one of them?

I think the ones the Apple stores sells are unlocked, but if you get them from the provider they're locked?

I also think if you get them from a provider they're still locked, but for $50 you can get it unlocked.

I tried calling rogers about that and they basically told me to go on the internet and do it for free.

Yes I know if you get them from the provider they're locked, and at the apple store generally unlocked.

But I got my original phone from Rogers, then my replacement from Apple. So I am wondering if my replacement is unlocked and I can avoid the $50 charge...

Isn't that only available when your contract is over?

Yeah, you have to pay the difference on your discounted phone + $50 to get it unlock if it's still within the 3 year contract.

Redvan, I think yours is still locked to Rogers even if you've got a replacement. It is technically still the discounted phone you received.

When the Apple Store replaces your phone, they relock it to your original provider when they activate it.
